Ohio State Wins Three Events, Moves Into First Place On Day Two of B1Gs

Day Two Results
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 8 Ohio State women's swimming and diving team won three events and is in first place after the second day of the Big Ten Championships on Thursday.
It was an exciting night all around for the Buckeyes, but perhaps the most electric moment of all was a sweep of the 50 free, with Ohio State finishing 1-2-3. Teresa Ivan was the champion with an NCAA B cut time of 21.74, which is tied for the eighth-fastest time in the country this season. Amy Fulmer touched the wall second in an NCAA B standard time of 21.79 and Katherine Zenick finished third, also recording an NCAA B cut with a time of 21.81.
Nyah Funderburke finished fifth in the 50 free B final, swimming an NCAA B cut time of 22.50. In the C final, Catherine Russo finished second, touching the wall at 22.23, which is an NCAA B standard time.
After placing first in prelims with a score of 300.90, Hentschel had a dominant performance on the 1-meter springboard in finals. Hentschel led the whole way, earning her first individual Big Ten title with an aggregate score of 307.40, which is an NCAA Zones qualifying score.
The Buckeyes closed out the night with a victory in the 400 medley relay, with the team of Nyah Funderburke, Hannah Bach, Morgan Kraus and Fulmer turning in an automatic NCAA qualifying time of 3:28.87. This is the fourth straight season the Buckeyes have won the 400 medley relay.
Josephine Panitz was the first medalist of the night for the Buckeyes. The defending 200 IM champion finished second in the A final and her time of 1:55.31 is an NCAA B standard time. Paige Hall placed fourth in the A final with an NCAA B cut time of 1:56.23. Jessica Eden was the winner of the B final with an NCAA B standard time of 1:58.17. Kyra Sommerstad's NCAA B cut time of 1:58.87 earned her a fourth-place finish in the B final. Reese Dehen (2:01.14) finished eighth in the C final.
The night opened with the 500 free. Maya Geringer touched the wall at 4:41.72, which is an NCAA B standard, and earned her a fourth-place finish in the B final. Mia Rankin finished fifth in the C final with a time of 4:47.62.
The Buckeyes closed out day two with 444 total points and have an 11-point lead on second-place Michigan, who wrapped up the second day of competition with 433 points.
The Big Ten Championships continue Friday and Saturday. Prelims will begin at 10:00 a.m. each day with finals to follow at 5:00 p.m.
