No. 8 Ohio State Earns 3-0 Win Over Quincy Friday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 8 Ohio State (9-3, 3-1) kept its record perfect at home over Quincy (5-3, 1-3) Friday at the Covelli Center with a 3-0 win over the Hawks.
The Buckeyes improved to 39-0 in the series in games played in Columbus with the 25-17, 25-13, 25-21 win.
Daniel Hurley led the Buckeyes with 12 kills. Noah Platfoot had 28 assists to lead both teams. He also led the Buckeyes with five digs.
How it Happened
Set 1
Neither team was able to gain an advantage until Quincy took an 11-9 lead after a 3-0 run. The Buckeyes quickly tied it at 11-all and took a 13-11 advantage on a pair of Cole Young kills and two Hawks errors. An Ohio State 6-0 run led to a Quincy timeout with the Buckeyes leading 15-11. A Jacob Pasteur kill and Quincy error put Ohio State up 19-13. Two Ohio State blocks and a Daniel Hurley kill let to the Hawks final timeout of the set with the Buckeyes leading 23-16. Ohio State then scored two of the next three points to win the opening set, 25-17. Ohio State hit .308 while the Hawks hit .042. Young was the kill leader with four.
Set 2
Ohio State jumped to a 5-0 lead behind a pair of Pasteur aces around three Quincy errors. After a Hawks timeout, Pasteur added his third and fourth ace for a 7-0 Ohio State lead. Quincy got on the board with a kill before a Kyle Teune kill put Ohio State up 8-1. Pasteur then set Hurley for a kill from the right side to make it 11-1 Buckeyes. A 3-1 run upped Ohio State's lead to 15-4. A pair of Hurley kills led to Quincy's final timeout of the set with Ohio State on top 20-7. A Hurley kill put Ohio State in position for set point up 24-12. Teune then got the kill for the 25-13 win. Quincy hit -.043 while the Buckeyes connected at .471. Hurley took over the team lead in kills with seven.
Set 3
Ohio State kept its momentum early in the third in building a 9-4 lead. The Hawks scored the next three to close the gap to 9-7. Quincy continued its run to make it 9-8 Buckeyes before an Ohio State timeout. The Hawks tied it at 11-all and took a 12-11 lead on an Ohio State attack error. Ohio State called its final timeout of the set with Quincy leading 13-11 and on a 4-0 run. A Young, Noah Platfoot combination block tied the set at 14-all. The teams traded points until a Hudson Harris, Platfoot block and Quincy error put Ohio State in the lead at 17-15. The Hawks called timeout after a Teune kill put Ohio State up 21-18. Quincy then went on a 3-1 run to cut it to 22-21 Buckeyes. Pasteur then connected for a kill for a two-point edge at 23-21. Quincy then called its final timeout. A Teune ace set up match point at 24-21. Young and Platfoot then combined for the set (25-21) and match-winning (3-0) block.
