COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's lacrosse team will host North Carolina Sunday, Oct. 13 for the annual MRB Thumbs Up game. The teams will face off at 11 a.m. from Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium.
The MRB Thumbs Up game is an annual tradition between the Buckeye and Tar Heel programs that benefits the Michael R. Breschi Foundation, which honors the life of Michael Breschi who tragically passed away in 2004 at just three years old.
Â
"This is an important weekend, not just for our team's development, but for both our program and the North Carolina program to honor Mike and his spirit," Nick Myers, Ohio State head coach, said. "This weekend is about building an identity as a lacrosse team and the fellowship between two groups of student-athletes."
Â
Prior to the game, the teams will hold a moment of silence and raise a "thumbs up", Michael's signature gesture to his family. The teams and their families will gather after the game for a shared meal and MRB programming to honor Michael's life and joyful spirit.
Fans are encouraged to make a donation to the Michael R. Breschi Foundation HERE in place of charged admission. The game is general admission seating and concessions will be open. Fans are encouraged to park in the Buckeye Lots.
Â
The Tar Heels are coached by former Ohio State head coach Joe Breschi, who earned a 92-63 record at the helm of the Buckeyes and helped the program to four GWLL regular-season titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances. Current Ohio State head coach Nick Myers was an assistant under Breschi before becoming the Buckeyes' head coach in 2009.
Â
The game will give a first glance at both teams who return the core of their squads from last season. Ohio State returns eight of its top 10 goal scorers from 2024 in Alex Marinier, Jack McKenna, Gannon Matthews, Ben Mayer, Ed Shean, Blake Eiland, Dillon Magee and Ari Allen. At close defense, returning starters include Bobby Van Buren, Cullen Brown and Kyle Foster. Sophomore goalie Caleb Fyock, who started 14 of 15 games last season, is back between the pipes for Ohio State. At the faceoff X, sophomore Jack Oldman is the team's leading returner, after going 70-for-135 (.519) in his rookie season. The Buckeyes welcome 17 newcomers to the squad ahead of the 2025 season, including 11 freshmen and six transfers.Â

About the Michael R. Breschi Foundation
The Michael R. Breschi foundation is a way that Michael's name can live on through young adults in hopes to spread love and inspiration among the younger generation. The Foundation's main focus is to not only honor Mike's spirit, but to raise awareness around the lacrosse community to prioritize family as the days we have are precious.
Â
In his honor, the Michael R. Breschi Memorial Scholarship was established and, in the years since, it's become one of the largest memorial endowed scholarships in the Ohio State Department of Athletics. Each fall, the scholarship is given to an Ohio State senior who best exemplifies the spirit of Michael.
