
Buckeyes Go 2-0 on Day One of Barbara Nicklaus Cup

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's golf team went 2-0 on day one of the Barbara Nicklaus Cup at Muirfield Village Monday, defeating Florida, 3.5-2.5, and Charlotte, 4-2.
Mandy Song won both of her matches on Monday. She won 5&4 against Florida's Jessica Guiser. Song and Guiser were tied after six holes of play. Guiser went 1-up after hole seven, but a tie on eight and a par from Song on nine tied things up once again. Song won three of the last five holes played to earn the win.
Song defeated Charlotte's Caroline Johnson, 7&5, in her second match of the day. Through five holes, Johnson led, 1-up. Song, however, went on an impressive run to close things out, winning eight straight holes to clinch the win.
Nellie Ong also was victorious in both of her matches, winning both 4&2. Florida's Paula Francisco was 2-up early, but two birdies turned the table and had Ong 2-up through seven holes. Ong picked up two more birdies as she went on to win, 4&2.
Ong competed against Charlotte's Ilani Short in match two. Ong was 3-up through the first five holes of play. Short won four straight holes and took a 1-up lead after the front nine. Ong birdied hole 11 to tie the score and won four of the pair's next five holes to earn the 4&2 victory.
Faith Choi won her opening match against the Gators' Addison Klonowski, 4&2. Two early birdies gave Choi a quick lead through four holes. Choi and Klonowski went back and forth and tied six holes. Choi closed out the victory with wins on three of the last four holes played.
Choi fell to Jette Schulze of Charlotte in match two; Schulze won, 1-up. Choi and Schulze played the full 18 holes, trading the lead and tying the score multiple times. The pair was tied after the front nine, with each winning two holes and tying seven. Choi and Schulze remained tied after 17 holes. Schulze won the final hole to take the match.
Kary Hollenbaugh tied her match against Florida and won her match against Charlotte. The Gators' Ines Archer got ahead of Hollenbaugh, 2-up, through the first five holes. Hollenbaugh won holes six and seven to tie things up. The players were tied after the front nine and on the back nine, Hollenbaugh won three of the next six holes played to get ahead of Archer. Archer, however, won the final three holes and the match ended in a tie.
Hollenbaugh won her second match of the day, 1-up, against Charlotte's Pimchompoo Chaisilprungruang. Hollenbaugh was 1-up after the front nine holes. Chaisilprungruang won hole 10 to tie the score, but a birdie from Hollenbaugh on 11 put her back in the lead. Hollenbaugh was 2-up after 13, but a tie and two wins from Chaisilprungruang tied things up once again. Hollenbaugh won hole 17 and the pair tied 18 to give the Buckeyes the 1-up win.
Marina Joyce-Moreno fell to Florida's Sophie Stevens in the first match of the day; Steven won 1-up. The pair played a full 18 holes, trading the lead back and forth throughout. After 15 holes, the players were tied. Stevens won hole 16 and the two tied the final two holes, giving Stevens the 1-up win.
Joyce-Moreno bounced back in match two, defeating Charlotte's Mia Gray, 4&2. The pair were tied after six holes, but Joyce-Moreno won seven and birdied eight to get ahead, 2-up. Joyce-Moreno won four of the next eight holes, including a birdie on 13, to clinch the win.
Kavya Ajjarapu dropped both her matches. Florida's Siuue Wu earned a 1-up win in the first match of the day. Ajjarapu had the lead over Wu and was 3-up through the first nine. Wu won holes 10, 11 and 12 to tie things up. Ajjarapu regained a 1-up lead, but Wu once again tied the score. Ajjarapu won hole 15 to get ahead again, but Wu won two of the final three holes to earn the win.
Against Charlotte's Tien-In Uang, Ajjarapu was defeated, 3&2. The pair was tied through the first nine holes of play. Ajjarapu birdied 10 and 11 and was 1-up, but Uang won four of the next five holes to earn the win.
The Buckeyes sit in fourth place overall with 10 total points. The point total is a combination of the women's and men's points from the day. Charlotte leads with 14 points, Clemson is in second with 12.5 points and Florida is third with 11.5 points.
Ohio State plays its final match of the tournament on Tuesday against Clemson. Tee times begin at 8:39 a.m.
