
Buckeyes Break Program’s Attendance Record in First-Ever Match in the Schottenstein Center

The 8,844 fans in attendance on Sunday was also an Ohio record for regular season collegiate matches.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (8-8, 1-5 B1G) fell to Michigan (14-3, 4-2 B1G) on Sunday afternoon in four sets (24-26, 23-25, 25-20, 21-25) in the first match played in the Schottenstein Center in program history.
Ohio State led the entire first set until Michigan scored the final six points of the set to win by a 26-24 margin. The second set was more back-and-forth, featuring 14 ties and 11 lead changes before Michigan won by a 25-23 margin. The Buckeyes led the third set from start to finish and earned a 25-20 set win. The fourth set was back and forth again, and a late challenge win helped Michigan to a 25-21 set victory.
Emily Londot became just the second player in program history to reach 2,000 career kills, 2,000 career points and 1,000 career digs as she totaled 24 kills and season-high 16 digs today. She was the first in the match to reach double-figure kills, recorded her ninth double-double of the season and her fourth match with 20+ kills. Olivia Hasbrook was the first Buckeye to 10 digs and totaled 20 in the match, also tallying a career-high four aces and a career-high eight assists. Emmi Sellman joined Londot in double figure kills with a career-high 14. Kamiah Gibson joined Londot in the double-double category with 36 assists and 11 digs.
How it Happened
Ohio State scored the first three points of the match and built an early 6-2 lead. After Michigan trimmed the OSU lead to 10-8, the Buckeyes responded with the next four points to build the advantage to 14-8 and force a Wolverines timeout. Ohio State led by as many as seven at 22-15, but Michigan strung together a 4-0 run to cut its deficit to 22-19 and prompt an OSU timeout. The Wolverines took their first lead of the set at 25-24 and won the set by a 26-24 margin by scoring the final six points.
The Buckeyes again scored the first three points of the set in the second but the Wolverines tied the set at four points apiece. The set was tied at points four through nine before a 3-0 Michigan run gave UM a 12-9 lead and prompted an Ohio State timeout. The Buckeyes scored five of the next six points to take a 14-13 lead on Londot's ninth kill. Michigan responded with a 4-0 run to take a 17-14 lead before Ohio State used a 4-0 run of its own to take an 18-17 lead. The lead changed a couple more times with the Wolverines up 20-19 and the Buckeyes up 21-20. Michigan called timeout with Ohio State leading 23-21 after an ace from Kaitlyn Hoffman but the Wolverines took a 24-23 lead out of the timeout and earned a 25-23 set win.
Londot opened scoring in the third set with her 13th kill of the match and the Buckeyes scored the first four points of the set. Ohio State built an early 10-3 lead to force a Michigan timeout. The Wolverines scored four of the next five points out of the timeout to trim their deficit to 12-8. Michigan used a 4-1 run to get within two at 20-18. The Buckeyes scored the next two points and Londot wrapped up the 25-20 set win with the 2,000th kill of her career.
Sellman opened the fourth set with her 10th kill of the match. The Buckeyes led by an 8-6 margin before a 5-0 Wolverines run gave Michigan the 11-8 advantage and prompted an OSU timeout. The Buckeyes tied the set at 12 but a pair of 3-0 runs from the Wolverines gave UM the 19-14 lead and prompted a second Ohio State timeout. The Buckeyes used a 5-1 run amidst a UM timeout to get within two at 22-20. Michigan won a challenge to give the Wolverines a 24-21 lead and won the match with a 25-21 set win.
