No. 5 Buckeyes Rally for 3-1 Win Over Daemen Sunday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 5 Ohio State (2-0) outlasted visiting Daemen University (0-1) Sunday at the Covelli Center.
After dropping the first set to the Wildcats 25-14, the Buckeyes won the next three, 25-19, 26-24 and 25-18 to earn the second win of the season.
Jacob Pasteur led the way with 18 kills and three aces. Shane Wetzel and Justin Howard each had 10 kills as well.
Setter Michael Wright had 44 assists and Ben Putnam led both teams with 10 digs.
How it Happened
Set 1
Daemen recorded the first point of the match and got out to a 4-1 lead. Down 7-3, Jacob Pasteur cut into the advantage with a kill from the left side to make it 7-4. The Wildcats then built their lead to 11-5 before an Ohio State timeout. The Buckeyes called their final timeout of the set after Daemen increased its lead to 18-7. The Wildcats then finished off the set for a 25-14 win. Daemen hit .444 while Ohio State hit .000. Pasteur led with three kills.
Set 2
The teams traded points early in the match with Pasteur helping with four kills and Cole Young with a pair to help the Buckeyes to an 8-7 lead. The Wildcats called timeout after a Pasteur kill and Daemen attack error put Ohio State up 12-9. A Shane Wetzel kill and Wildcat error gave the Buckeyes their largest lead at 16-12. A Young kill down the middle kept the lead at four, 18-14. Pasteur put the Buckeyes up 19-14 with a kill that led to Daemen's final timeout of the set. Ohio State hit 20 points on pair of kills by Justin Howard (21-17). The lead increased to 22-17 after a long rally and Wildcat error. Kyle Teune came in to serve with Ohio State leading 23-19 and his effort led to a Putnam kill. An Ohio State block by Putnam ended the set to even the match with a 25-19 win. The Buckeyes hit .241 in the set while the Wildcats connected at a .143 clip. Pasteur led both teams with nine kills overall.
Set 3
Daemen jumped to a 2-0 lead. A Howard and Pasteur block tied it at 2-all. The Wildcats took the lead and held it as the teams traded points until a Pasteur kill tied the set at 13-all. A Wetzel kill and Michael Wright ace put the Buckeyes up 15-13. With the Buckeyes on a 5-1 run, Daemen called timeout down two. Ohio State upped its lead to 18-15 on a Pasteur ace. The Wildcats scored the next three to tie it at 18-all. The Buckeyes called timeout and reclaimed the lead on a Daemen service error and Howard ace to make it 20-18. Daemen tied the set at 21-all to prompt Ohio State's final timeout. The set went back-and-forth with a Pasteur kill setting up set point at 24-23 and an Ohio State 3-1 run. The Wildcats called timeout and tied the set at 24-all on a Buckeyes attack error. After a Daemen service error, the Buckeyes took the set 26-24 on a Pasteur kill. Pasteur upped his kill total to 14 with the set winner.
Set 4
A Wetzel kill gave Ohio State a 7-5 lead after the teams traded points to open the set. Young increased the lead to 8-5 before an Ohio State service error. Another Wetzel kill and a Wildcat attack error made it 10-6 Buckeyes before a Daemen timeout. Wright got his first kill of the match for an 11-7 Ohio State lead. A Daemen service error and a Pasteur kill upped Ohio State's lead to 13-8. Pasteur finished a long rally with another kill, his 15th, to make it 14-9 Buckeyes. Pasteur added an ace for a 15-9 Ohio State. The Wildcats called their final timeout of the set down six. Pasteur and Howard put the Buckeyes up 21-15 with back-to-back kills. A Wright kill and Daemen error made it 23-16 Buckeyes. After an Ohio State service error, Pasteur set up match point with a kill to the back left corner in front of the Daemen bench. Wetzel then finished off the match with a kill, 25-18.
