Brickey’s Goal Leads Buckeyes to 3-2 Win vs. Irish

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's hockey team returned to Big Ten action Friday, posting a 3-2 victory over Notre Dame in Value City Arena. The Buckeyes led 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 after the second, but Notre Dame scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the third to deadlock the score. Buckeye Scooter Brickey broke the tie with a power play goal just under two minutes later and Ohio State was able to close out the victory.
The Buckeyes (9-8-4, 1-8-2 0-0-2 B1G) and Irish (10-10-2, 4-7-2 B1G) will wrap up the weekend and regular season series at 7:15 p.m. Saturday. The game will be televised by BTN, with coverage starting on the Fox Sports app at 7:11 p.m. and then joined in progress on BTN at 8 p.m. Ohio State Radio will also carry the action. As part of Military Appreciation Weekend military members can each receive two free tickets to the game online through Vet Tix or at the arena on game night. Tickets for game two vs. the Irish, and all home games, can be purchased online HERE. Saturday the program will welcome back men's hockey alums for Alumni Night, with a pregame recognition featuring the 20th anniversary of the 2004 CCHA Tournament Champion squad.

The Buckeyes had the only three power play chances of the first period and outshot the Irish 16-7 in the stanza, with nine shots with the man advantage. Stephen Halliday doubled the Buckeye lead with a goal halfway through the second period.
The Irish got on the board 65 seconds into the third and tied the game at 9:33. Ohio State took advantage of its first power play chance since the first period, as Scooter Brickey broke the tie at 11:32 with his fourth goal in the last three games. Notre Dame skated with its net empty for the last 2:05 but the Buckeye defense held strong, including facing a 6-on-4 advantage after an Ohio State penalty with 10.2 seconds remaining.

- Ohio State carried play to start the game, helped by three power play chances in the first 13 minutes. The Buckeyes had nine shots on goal in the three opportunities combined.
- With the teams even strength, Dalton Messina put in the rebound of a Nathan McBrayer shot right in front at 16:16 to open the scoring, with Joe Dunlap also assisting.
- The Buckeyes ended the period ahead in shots, 16-7, and did not face a power play.
- Ohio State went ahead 2-0 at 9:42 of the second. McBrayer led Burnside through the neutral zone. He passed to Stephen Halliday in the middle and he got through the defensemen, scoring on a backhand.
- The teams combined for 19 shots in the middle period, with the Irish, who had the only power play, ahead, 10-9.
- Just 1:05 into the third Drew Bavaro's shot from the point got through and Danny Nelson then tied the game at 9:33.
- The Buckeyes went on the power play at 11:01 and regained the lead 31 seconds later. The puck went to Scooter Brickey above the faceoff circle and he beat the goalie high for a 3-2 lead. Cam Thiesing and Halliday had the assists on Brickey's goal, his team-best ninth of the year.
