Buckeyes Drop Game Two vs. Notre Dame

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's hockey team ended its weekend Big Ten series with Notre Dame with a split after falling to the Irish, 5-2, Saturday in Value City Arena. Notre Dame scored the game's first two goals but Ohio State tied the game with two late tallies in the first. The Irish found the back of the net twice in less than three minutes in the second and carried a 4-2 lead into intermission. Notre Dame had the only goal of the third for the 5-2 final.

The Buckeyes (9-9-4, 1-9-2 0-0-2 B1G) captured game one vs. the Irish (11-10-2, 5-7-2 B1G), 3-2.

The Buckeyes will be on the road the next two weeks, with a series at Minnesota Friday and Saturday and two games at Penn State Jan. 26-27. The Short Story
Notre Dame scored twice in less than two minutes for a 2-0 lead at the 11:42 mark of the first period. Max Montes finished a 2-on-0 play with Joe Dunlap at 17:07 to put Ohio State on the board and with 50 seconds left in the period Stephen Halliday deadlocked the score, spinning around and scoring from right in front, assisted by Jake Dunlap and Davis Burnside. Each team had 15 shots on goal in the first.

In the second period, the Irish broke the tie at 13:08 and followed with a power play goal at 15:42 for a 4-2 advantage. Notre Dame outshot the Buckeyes in the stanza, 17-8. The only goal of the third came from Notre Dame at 8:16 and the Irish had the shot advantage, 11-9.

For the game, the Buckeyes were outshot, 43-32. Buckeye freshman goalie Kristoffer Eberly had a career-high 38 saves in all 60 minutes. The Buckeyes had 18 shot blocks, led by Scooter Brickey with three.
