
Buckeyes Take the Courts in Michigan Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 14-ranked Ohio State women's tennis team took the court for the first time in 2024 at the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich., this weekend. It was the final individual tournament of the regular season, with dual play starting next weekend. Â
The Buckeyes competed against players from the host No. 5-ranked Wolverines, No. 3 Georgia and No. 20 Georgia Tech. Each team was slated for a round of singles and doubles Friday through Sunday, but the Varsity Tennis Center did not have power Saturday and Sunday because of the winter storm and play was moved to Travis Pointe Country Club. Friday had both singles and doubles, while Saturday featured a round of singles and Sunday included two rounds of doubles.Â
Teah Chavez led the Buckeyes with a 5-0 record combined, with two singles and three doubles victories. Dani Schoenly was 3-0 combined, with two singles victories, and Audrey Spencer picked up two singles wins and a doubles win. Madeline Atway was 3-0 in doubles over the weekend for Ohio State.Â
Sunday
Action wrapped up with two round of doubles, with the Buckeyes 5-3 on the day. Ohio State was 3-1 vs. Georgia and split four matches vs. Georgia Tech.

Teah Chavez and Madeline Atway both posted two wins Sunday. Chavez and Irina Cantos Siemers paired up for a win over the No. 58-ranked team from Georgia.

The Schedule Ahead
The Buckeyes will open dual match play with a trip to Oklahoma next weekend. They will take on Oklahoma Friday in Norman, Okla., and Oklahoma State Sunday.
Ohio State will then return to home to again serve as a host site for ITA Kickoff Weekend matches. The first round features the Buckeyes vs. Notre Dame and Kansas vs. Arizona State Jan. 26, with championship and consolation matches Jan. 27. The site winner will advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. Admission and parking are free for all regular season matches in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
