Finalist Finishes for the Buckeyes at Fall Ranked Spotlight

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A quartet from the Ohio State women's tennis team competed in the Fall Ranked Spotlight over the weekend in North Carolina. The four-day tournament started Thursday with doubles matches on the NC State campus in Raleigh. Singles matches were played Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with a third round of doubles Sunday, with the majority of play at the Cary Tennis Park.
Buckeyes Irina Cantos Siemers and Luciana Perry both reached the finals of their draws after going 4-0 over the first two days and Cantos Siemers and Sydni Ratliff reached the A-B doubles final after notching two wins Thursday.

The Buckeyes were joined by players from host NC State, Arizona State, Auburn, Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, UCF, USC and Virginia.

Doubles Thursday
The No. 14-ranked duo of Sydni Ratliff and Irina Cantos Siemers went 2-0 on the night in Group A, downing teams from Auburn (6-3) and North Carolina (6-2).Â

In Group H, the Buckeye freshman duo of Luciana Perry and Teah Chavez opened the night with a 7-5 victory over a team from Oklahoma. The Scarlet and Gray tandem then fell to a team from Miami, 6-2.Â
Singles Friday
In the A-1 bracket, No. 6-seed Irina Cantos Siemers advanced to the quarterfinals with two wins. She defeated Anika Yarlagadda, 6-1, 6-4, to open play before a 6-1, 7-6 (4) victory over conference foe Kari Miller of Michigan. Sydni Ratliff rallied for a three-set win over Duke's Emma Jackson in the first round, 6-7 (6), 7-6 (5), 6-3. She advanced to a match vs. No. 1-seed Mary Stoiana of Texas A&M. The Aggie won the first set, 6-2, before Ratliff forced a third set with a 6-3 win. Stoiana prevailed in the third, 6-1, to advance.Â
Freshman Luciana Perry advanced to the quarterfinals of the A-2 Draw. She notched a straight-set win over Duke's Karolina Berankova in the first round and then topped the draw's No. 4 seed, Leonie Schuknect of Miami, 6-4, 6-0. Rookie Teah Chavez dropped her two matches.
Singles Saturday
With two more victories, No. 6 seed Irina Cantos Siemers advanced to the A-1 championship match. She won both Saturday matches in straight sets, topping Mia Kupres of Texas A&M in the quarterfinals and NC State's Abigail Rencheli in the semifinals. Sydni Ratliff lost her consolation match.
Freshman Luciana Perry reached the A-2 final after two Saturday wins. She was a straight-set winner over Taya Pachkaleva of Texas in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Perry rallied to top No. 1 seed Hibah Shaikh of Virginia, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Teah Chavez dropped a consolation match.Â
Sunday Doubles and Singles
The tandem of Irina Cantos Siemers and Sydni Ratliff finished the weekend 2-1, falling to a Texas A&M duo in the A-B championship match Sunday. The duo of Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry won its final match over a team from Miami and was also 2-1 in the event.Â
In singles, both Cantos Siemers and Perry came up short in their respective flight championship matches. Cantos Siemers, the No. 6 seed in the A-1 flight, fell to No. 5 seed Amelia Rajecki, 7-6 (6), 6-4. In the A-2 final, Perry fell in three sets, 7-6 (2), 6-1, 6-0, to Virginia's Sara Ziodato.Â
Looking Ahead
The ITA Women's All-American Championships will be held Sept. 30-Oct. 8 in Cary, N.C., with select Buckeyes set for singles and doubles competition.
