
Buckeyes Represent Well at 2023 World Athletics Championships

The event took place in Budapest, Hungary over the past couple weeks.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Five individuals with ties to the Ohio State track & field program competed in the 2023 World Athletics Championships over the past couple weeks in Budapest, Hungary.
- Joel Brown served as an assistant coach for women's sprints and hurdles for Team USA and is the Buckeyes' current associate head coach and former Buckeye standout. All three athletes qualified for the 100m finals, including Sha'Carri Richardson who won the event (10.65, a championship record). In the 200m, two athletes made the finals, finishing second (Gabrielle Thomas, 21.81) and third (Richardson (21.92, PR), while the third was the first out after finishing ninth in the semifinals. Kendra Harrison finished third in the finals of the 100m hurdles (12.46) to lead the two Team USA athletes in the finals. Team USA also had two qualify for the finals in the 400m hurdles with Shamier Little leading the way as the runner-up (52.80, SB).
- Leah Bertrand, representing Trinidad & Tobago and a current Ohio State student-athlete, ran a 11.32 in the qualifying heats of the women's 100m. She finished third in her heat and in the top-half of the competition but missed qualifying for the next round by a few one-hundredths of a second. Bertrand also ran a leg on the 4x100m relay that finished fifth in its heat and 10th overall (42.85).
- Adelaide Aquilla, representing Team USA, finished 12th in her flight and 23rd overall in the shot put with a best throw of 17.42m / 57'1.83". She currently serves as a volunteer coach for the throws group and graduated this spring after an extremely successful collegiate career. Â
- Sade Olatoye, representing Nigeria, finished 15th in her flight and 30th overall in the hammer throw. She last competed for the Scarlet & Gray in the spring of 2021. Â
- Duan Asemota, a 2018 Ohio State graduate, served as an alternate for the men's 4x100m relay for Canada.
