
Ohio State Edged by Terrapins, 3-2

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State (17-17, 2-9 Big Ten) fell to Maryland (21-13, 6-2 Big Ten), 3-2, in the second game of the teams’ series on Saturday.
Game Recap
- Matthew Graveline collected the first hit of the game for the Buckeyes with a single to center field in the bottom of the first. He turned on the jets and moved up two bases on a wild pitch from the Terps, but he was stranded on base.
- Trey Lipsey led off with a double down the right field line in the bottom of the third, but there was nothing else doing for the Buckeyes as they remained scoreless.
- In the bottom of the fourth inning, Cole Andrews hit a lead-off double. Marcus Ernst drew a walk and Nick Erwin laid down a bunt single to load the bases with no outs on the board. The next three Buckeyes, however, were retired and the game stayed scoreless after four.
- A solo homerun from the Terrapins in the top of the fifth gave them a 1-0 lead over Ohio State.
- In the bottom of the sixth, a one-out single from Ernst and a single from Erwin put two runners on. Mitchell Okuley walked to load up the bases for Ohio State once again. Josh McAlister was next up and also drew a walk, sending Ernst home to tie the score, 1-1.
- Tyler Pettorini hit a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh. Andrews then doubled down the left field line. Pettorini advanced to third but was thrown out at home.
- Two RBI singles from the Terrapins in the top of the eighth put them back in the lead, 3-1.
- In the bottom of the eighth frame, Okuley brought the Buckeyes back within one run of the lead, 3-2, with a solo homerun to right field.
- Ohio State, however, went down in order in the ninth as Maryland came away with the 3-2 win.
Buckeyes by the Numbers
- Andrews and Erwin led the Buckeyes in hits with two each.
- Jonah Jenkins earned his first start in the Scarlet & Gray. He struck out one and allowed one run on five hits in a 5.1-inning no-decision.
- Landon Beidelschies (0-2) took the loss. He gave up one run on two hits in 1.0 inning pitched.
Up Next
- The Buckeyes wrap up their series against the Terps on Sunday, April 16. The game, which was set for a 12:00 p.m. start, will now get underway at 11:00 a.m. due to incoming inclement weather.
