
No. 7 Buckeyes Drop 14-3 Decision to No. 9 Missouri

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- No. 7 Ohio State (11-2) fell 14-3 to No. 9 Missouri (11-2) in the 88th edition of the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Friday.
The Buckeyes scored first with a first-quarter field goal but the Tigers rallied for a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to earn the win.
It was a battle of the defenses for three quarters before Missouri was able to break through late.
Lincoln Kienholz played most of the game at quarterback after starter Devin Brown left the game in the first quarter with a lower body injury.
Ohio State's signal callers combined to complete 10-of-24 passes for 106 yards. TreVeyon Henderson led the running game with 72 yards on 19 carries.
Emeka Egbuka caught six passes for 63 yards to lead the receiving corps.
Defensively, linebacker Cody Simon had 12 tackles, including six solo stops.

Missouri won the pregame coin toss and elected to defer to the second half.
Devin Brown, in his first career start for the Buckeyes at quarterback, took the field but Ohio State had to punt on its first possession. Jesse Mirco came on and delivered a 53-yard boot to the Missouri 29.
The Tigers got to the Ohio State 48 before punting it back to the Buckeyes at their 10 after a 38-yard kick.
Brown drove the Buckeyes to the OSU40 after a couple completions to Emeka Egbuka and a 12-yard rush by TreVeyon Henderson.
Backed up by a couple false start penalties, Mirco pinned the Tigers back at their 10 after a 61-yard punt.
After an intentional grounding penalty, Missouri had to punt from its 17, giving the Buckeyes the ball at their 47 following a 43-yard boot.
Henderson got the call on the first play for the Buckeyes and he took it 20 yards down the right side before another 7-yard rush to the Tigers 26.
The Buckeyes were then the first to put points on the board with a 44-yard field goal by Jayden Fielding for a 3-0 lead with 3:12 left in the quarter. The drive covered 27 yards on five plays over 2:35.
The Tigers drove to their 47 before punting it away to the Buckeyes, who took over at their 9 after a 44-yard kick.
Henderson then rushed up the middle for no gain to end the quarter.
Henderson opened the second quarter with a rush up the middle for 6 yards after taking a direct snap from center. Brown was then sacked for a loss of 7 back to the OSU 8, where the Buckeyes were forced to punt.
Mirco then sent a 44-yard effort to the Missouri 48, where the Tigers started their first possession of the second quarter.
Facing a fourth-and-1 from the OSU43, the Tigers earned the first down with a run up the middle by quarterback Brady Cook for a gain of 5.
Ohio State's defense then sacked Cook twice, setting up a Missouri punt from the OSU45. The Buckeyes then took over at their 5 following a 40-yard kick.
Freshman Lincoln Kienholz then took over at quarterback for the Buckeyes while Brown sat out with a lower body injury.
Ohio State moved to their 10 before punting it back to the Tigers. Mirco was credited with a 59-yarder from the OSU endzone to the Missouri 32.
Cook started the drive with a 12-yard rush to the UM44. He guided the Tigers to the OSU48 where the Buckeyes forced a punt.

With the Buckeyes stopped inside the 5, Missouri was called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty giving Ohio State a first down at its 17.
Xavier Johnson then added 17 yards on a rush down the right side to the OSU34. That's where the drive stalled. Mirco then sent the Tigers back to their 21 after a 45-yard punt.
Missouri ended the half with an incompletion from their 47 trailing the Buckeyes, 3-0.

The Buckeyes could get no further than the UM30 before Jayden Fielding's 48-yard field-goal attempt missed after it hit high on the left upright to keep the score at 3-0 in favor of the Buckeyes.
After an 18-yard Cook scramble, the Tigers crossed midfield into Ohio State territory at the OSU49. The Tigers then moved back 8 yards after a bad snap. A play later, Cook was sacked by Ohio State's Jack Sawyer for an 8-yard loss to the UM38, forcing a Tigers punt.
