Ohio State Overview
• Jack had a terrific career playing for his hometown Buckeyes and capped it by being named a team captain as a senior and helping lead the program to the College Football Playoff national championship
• The four-year Varsity O letterwinner played in all 55 games the past four seasons and started 29 games consecutively in 2023 and 2024
• He earned hero status in Columbus and within Buckeye nation for his wonderful play - and plays - during the Buckeyes run to the national championship with wins over No. 7 Tennessee, No. 1 Oregon, No. 3 Texas and No. 5 Notre Dame
• The biggest of his big plays was a strip sack fumble and recovery of Quinn Ewers in the CFP semifinals at the Cotton Bowl vs. Texas that he returned 83 yards for a score to clinch the 28-14 win
• Texas was threatening to tie the score at 21-all inside of 4 minutes to play with a first-and-goal at the Buckeye 2, but three plays netted minus-6 yards and Sawyer's sack, scoop and score came on fourth down with 2:24 to play
• In just the four CFP games, he had 13 tackles, seven pass break-ups, 4.5 sacks and two quarterback hurries, and he was named the Defensive MVP of the Cotton Bowl
• His senior season stats included 59 tackles, nine tackles-for-loss (all of them quarterback sacks), three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries eight quarterback hurries and seven pass break-ups
• Earned second-team all-Big Ten Conference honors by the coaches
• Sawyer's four-year (2021-24) career totals include 144 tackles, 28.5 tackles-for-losses totaling 162 yards, 23 quarterback sacks, six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 15 quarterback hurries, 11 pass break-ups and a fourth quarter interception in the red zone vs. Michigan
• His 23 quarterback sacks rank eighth in Ohio State history and his 152 yards lost via sacks is ninth in school history
• Had a fine 2023 campaign as a full-time starter: ranking second among all defensive linemen with 48 tackles and leading all linemen with 24 solo stops
• His tackle totals last year included team-high totals of 10 tackles-for-loss, for 46 yards in losses, and 6.5 quarterback sacks
• Also had three quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and two pass break-ups
• Earned second-team all-Big Ten Conference honors by the media in 2023; third-team honors by the coaches
• Recorded personal best six tackles in 2023 three times: vs. Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan
• Recorded 24 tackles in 2022, including the third-most tackles-for-loss with 6.5 for minus-24 yards, and earned honorable mention all-Big Ten Conference honors for the league's coaches
• Also had 4.5 quarterback sacks (-20 yards)
• Contributed 13 total tackles, including 3.0 TFLS (all quarterback sacks) for losses of 24 yards in 2021 as a true freshman
• Also had one pass break-up, two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble
• Earned OSU Scholar-Athlete in 2023 and an Academic All-Big Ten Conference honoree in both 2023 and 2024
• Graduated in December 2024 with his degree in sport industry
