Buckeyes Finish Sweep of Princeton with 4-3 Win

COLUMBUS, Ohio – With a 4-3 win Saturday, the Ohio State men's hockey team completed a sweep of a two-game nonconference series vs. Princeton. The Buckeyes scored twice in the first four minutes and led 3-0 after the first period. The Tigers cut the lead to two (4-2) through 40 minutes and tallied the only goal of the third for a one-goal contest, but Ohio State closed out the victory.

The Buckeyes (5-5-3) won the series opener, 6-3, Friday in Columbus over the Tigers (3-4-1).

The Short Story
The Buckeyes were ahead 3-0 after the first period. Patrick Guzzo and Cam Thiesing each scored in the first four minutes and Caden Brown converted on the power play at 10:08. Princeton got on the board at 5:41 of the second with a 4-on-4 goal. Davis Burnside answered for Ohio State with a power play goal but the Tigers tallied on a major power play late in the period for a 4-2 game through 40 minutes. Princeton made it a one-goal contest at 3:32 of the third but neither team scored the rest of the way. Ohio State outshot Princeton, 28-18, in the game. The Buckeyes were 2-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.

Brown, Thiesing and Guzzo all had two points for the Buckeyes with a goal and an assist, while Scooter Brickey had two helpers.

The Schedule Ahead
- Ohio State will travel for two games at No. 6 Wisconsin next weekend. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. ET Dec. 1 and 9 p.m. ET Dec. 2, with both games streamed through Big Ten Plus and on Ohio State Radio.
- The first part of the schedule wraps up at home vs. No. 8 Minnesota. The teams will meet at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8 and at 8 p.m. Dec. 9 in Value City Arena. - Just 1:51 into the game Patrick Guzzo put the Buckeyes on the board, as he redirected a Brent Johnson pass right in front. Scooter Brickey picked up the second assist on the goal, Guzzo's third of the year.
- At 4:00 Cam Thiesing doubled the lead. Thomas Weis put a shot on goal, with Caden Brown picking up the rebound and passing to Thiesing at the far post and he scored before the goalie could recover.
- Brown scored a goal of his own at 10:08. On the power play Thiesing found him for a one-timer from the faceoff circle, with Brickey posting the second helper.
- Princeton got on the board at 5:41, finishing an odd-man rush with the teams skating 4-on-4.
- Davis Burnside answered, completing a tic-tac-toe play on the power play, set up by Guzzo and Max Montes.
- The Buckeyes were able to kill off 4:25 of a major but Princeton scored at 17:19 to make it a 4-2 game.
- The only goal of the third came at 3:21, as Joshua Karnish tallied from right in front to draw the Tigers within one (4-3).
- Neither team found the back of the net the rest of the way. Princeton pulled its goalie with nearly two minutes remaining but was unable to find the equalizer.
- Ohio State outshot Princeton, 28-18, with 10 shots on goal in both the first and third and eight in the middle period. The Tigers had four shots in the first, six in the second and eight in the third. Logan Terness played all 60 minutes in goal for the Buckeyes to pick up the win.
- Damien Carfagna led Ohio State with five shot blocks and Brickey had three. The Buckeyes blocked 13 shots as a team.
- Ohio State was 2-for-4 on the power play in the win, with the penalty kill 2-for-3.

- Thiesing and Brickey led the Buckeyes with five points each in the series vs. Princeton.
- Thiesing had two goals and three assists, with a tally in each game. His two-point night Saturday was the 10th of his career and his 13th career multiple-point outing.
- Brickey had a goal and a team-best four assists in the sweep. Saturday was his third career game with two assists and his sixth two-point outing. He is tied for second on the team with 10 points this year, with a team-high five goals.
- Brown had two points in each win, with two helpers in game one. He has three two-point nights in his collegiate career. Guzzo marked his sixth two-point game in the Scarlet and Gray.
- The Buckeyes were 4-for-8 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill in the series.
- Burnside is tied for second on the squad with four goals and 10 points.
- Stephen Halliday leads the Buckeyes with nine assists and 12 points this season.
