Buckeye Set for B1G Series at No. 6/8 Wisconsin

As a team ...Â
- The Ohio State men's hockey team returns to Big Ten play with two games at No. 6/8 Wisconsin this weekend. Â
- The teams will meet at 8 p.m. ET Friday and 9 p.m. ET Saturday in the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis.Â
- The games will be streamed through Big Ten Plus and on Ohio State Radio and live stats will be available.
- Ohio State is 5-5-3 on the year (0-5-1 0-0-1 B1G) and coming off a home sweep of Princeton. Wisconsin is 10-4-0 (4-2-0 0-0-0 B1G) and split a home series vs. Alaska Anchorage last weekend.Â
- Ohio State was 3-1-0 vs. Wisconsin last season, with a sweep in Columbus to start the B1G campaign in October and a series split in Madison in January. The Buckeyes are 23-12-5 vs. the Badgers in Big Ten regular season play.
- So far this season, 19 Buckeyes have gotten on the scoresheet, including 15 goal scorers.Â
- In the series sweep  vs. Princeton last weekend, Cam Thiesing (2g, 3a) and Scooter Brickey (1g, 4a) led the Buckeyes with five points each.Â
- This is the final road series for the Buckeyes in 2023. The squad's next two-game road trip is Jan. 19-20 at Minnesota. The first part of the season concludes at home next weekend vs. the Gophers.Â
- Eleven players returned from last year's Buckeye squad that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament, was 21-16-3 on the year and advanced to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals after finishing third in the regular season standings.
- Ohio State added 15 newcomers to the roster for 2023-24. The group, with six forwards, seven defensemen and two goalies, includes eight freshmen and seven transfers (two graduate students). The new Buckeyes hail from 11 states in the US and two Canadian provinces, along with a native of Sweden.Â
- Defenseman Scooter Brickey, a fifth-year senior and captain for the Buckeyes, is leading the squad with five goals this season and is tied for second with 10 points.Â
- Blueliner and junior transfer Brent Johnson is tied for second on the team with four goals. Â
- Freshman Theo Wallberg, sophomore transfer Damien Carfagna and graduate transfer Mason Klee have also found the back of the net this season, as has sophomore defenseman John Larkin (playing as a forward the game he scored).
- Brickey has a team-best 21 shot blocks, while Carfagna is second with 19. Johnson has 16, followed by forward Patrick Guzzo with 14, Wallberg with 12 and Klee with 10.Â
- Ohio State is 26-24-5 all-time vs. Wisconsin and leads the regular season series since the start of Big Ten play, 23-12-5, with a 25-14-5 mark overall since 2013-14 (including postseason play). In Madison, Ohio State has the advantage, 11-10-3.
- The Buckeyes won the season series last year, 3-1-0. The teams opened Big Ten play in Columbus Oct. 7-8, with Ohio State posting a sweep (W 3-1, 4-3). In Madison Jan. 20-21, the teams split a series, with each posting a shutout win (UW 4-0, OSU 2-0).Â
- Ohio State head coach Steve Rohlik is a 1990 graduate of Wisconsin, where he was a captain on the Badgers' national championship team.
- Assistant coach JB Bittner spent a season on the Badger coaching staff in 2015-16.Â
- Buckeye freshman forward Thomas Weis is a native of Madison, Wis., and his classmate Max Montes is from Hartland, Wis. Â

- Ohio State is 10-for-54 (.185) on the power play this season. The squad was 4-for-8 on the power play vs. Princeton, with two PPG in each game.
- Stephen Halliday had both power play goals in game one and Caden Brown and Davis Burnside converted with the man advantage in game two. This year, seven Buckeyes have scored with the man advantage.Â
- The Buckeye penalty kill is 33-for-42 (.786) so far this year. Last weekend, the team was 5-for-6 on the PK. The squad has one shorthanded goal, scored by Dalton Messina at Omaha.
- The Scarlet and Gray are averaging 34.77 shots a night, giving up 32.69. The Buckeyes held Princeton to an opponent season-low 18 shots last Saturday.Â
- Ohio State is averaging 2.62 goals per game on the year. The squad had a season-high six goals in game one vs. Princeton and had 10 goals in the series, also a season best. Â
- Fifteen Buckeyes have scored at least one goal this season. Among the scorers are freshmen Theo Wallberg, Thomas Weis and Ryan Gordon, as well as sophomore John Larkin who notched his first collegiate tally at Omaha. Transfers Brent Johnson, Jake Dunlap, Mason Klee, Damien Carfagna and Caden Brown have also all found the back of the net.Â
- Stephen Halliday, the Buckeyes' leading scorer a season ago as a freshman, has a team-best nine assists and 12 points. He had his first career two-goal game in the opener vs. Princeton and added two helpers for a four-point game, the second of his career.Â
- Scooter Brickey has a 5-5-10 line through 13 games this season after posting a 6-18-24 mark in his first four collegiate campaigns (99 games). He has a career-high three points in the opener vs. Princeton and had two assists each night.
- Dalton Messina has a career-high two goals, four assists and six points this year after six points (1g, 5a) in his first four collegiate seasons.
- Caden Brown, who missed the start of the season with injury, had two points in each game against the Tigers, with two helpers in game one and a goal and an assist in game two. He has played in five games, with a 2-3-5 line.Â
- Four Buckeyes have seen action in more than 100 collegiate games - Riley Hughes (123), Scooter Brickey (112), Patrick Guzzo (110) and Mason Klee (101). Michael Gildon (96) is approaching the 100-games played mark.
- Cam Thiesing, who led the Buckeyes in goals last year with 15, found the back of the net in each game vs. Princeton. He also had three helpers in the series, with two in game one for his third three-point night.Â
- Guzzo and Brickey are serving as the Buckeyes' captains this year, with Matt Cassidy and Thiesing the alternate captains.
- The first part of the schedule wraps up at home vs. Minnesota. The teams will meet at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8 and at 8 p.m. Dec. 9 in Value City Arena. BTN will televise the matchups and the call will be on Ohio State Radio.Â
- The Buckeyes will return from break Dec. 30 when they host Mercyhurst, before a home-and-home series against Bowling Green Jan. 5-6. Â Â Â
