Halliday Leads Buckeyes to 6-3 Win vs. Princeton

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Led by a two-goal, four-point performance from Stephen Halliday, the Ohio State men's hockey team defeated Princeton, 6-3, Friday in Value City Arena. The Buckeyes led 2-0 after the first period and the teams were tied 3-3 through 40 minutes. Halliday broke the tie less than a minute into the third with a power play goal and two empty net goals sealed the win.

The Buckeyes (4-5-3) and Tigers (3-3-1) will close the weekend series at 5 p.m. Saturday in Value City Arena. A buy one ticket, get one free Holideal is available for the game HERE. Parking is free. The Short Story
Ohio State led 2-0 after 20 minutes, with Scooter Brickey and Stephen Halliday tallying in the first period. After the Buckeyes outshot the Tigers 14-6 in the first period, each team had 15 shots on goal in the second, with Princeton outscoring Ohio State 3-1 for a 3-3 game through 40 minutes. In the second, Princeton scored at 4:16 and 11:21 to tie the game. Brent Johnson put Ohio State ahead less than a minute after the second Tiger goal (12:08) but Princeton answered at 14:39 to again draw even.

Just 50 seconds into the third Halliday notched his second power play goal of the game to put Ohio State ahead. Logan Terness stopped all 15 Princeton shots in the period to preserve the lead and Cam Thiesing and Dalton Messina added empty net goals in the final 1:25 to close out the win. Ohio State had six shots on goal in the last period. Terness ended the game with 33 saves and helped the Buckeyes go 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. Ohio State was 2-for-4 with the man advantage.

Halliday had a team-best four points, with two goals and two assists. Thiesing and Brickey had three-point outing with a goal and two assists each and Caden Brown and Davis Burnside each picked up two helpers.

How it Happened
- Scooter Brickey tallied his team-best fifth goal of the season at 6:54, with his shot off a pass from Cam Thiesing sneaking through. Caden Brown had the second helper on the goal, his first assist as a Buckeye.
- On the power play at 15:26 Brown found Halliday with a cross-crease pass and he put it home for a 2-0 Ohio State lead. Brickey had the second assist on the tally.
- Princeton notched the first two goals of the second to tie the game. Joshua Karnish scored at 4:16 and Nick Seitz tallied one second after a Tiger power play expired at 11:21.
- Brent Johnson drove the zone, beat the defender and scored to put Ohio State ahead at 12:08. Davis Burnside and Halliday assisted on the goal, Johnson's fourth goal of the season.
- Princeton responded with an unassisted goal at 14:39 from Ian Murphy for a 3-3 game.
- A Buckeye power play carried over into the third period and Ohio State converted the opportunity, with Halliday again scoring, this time off a pass from Thiesing, with Brickey picking up the second assist. The goal, 50 seconds into the period, but the Buckeyes ahead 4-3 and stood as the gamewinner.
- Ohio State killed a penalty at 11:42 to maintain the one-goal lead.
- Princeton pulled its goalie late for the extra attacker. Thiesing, who had a team-high six shots in the game, scored into the empty net at 18:35, set up by Burnside. Dalton Messina took a pass from Halliday and tallied into the empty net from near the blueline at 19:15. Thomas Weis also assisted on the goal.
- For the game, the Buckeyes were outshot, 36-35. Ohio State had the advantage in the first, 14-6, Princeton was ahead in the third, 15-6, and each team had 15 shots in the middle period.
- Buckeye goalie Logan Terness played all 60 minutes and had 33 saves.
- Johnson had two of the Buckeyes' six shot blocks in the win.
