Buckeye Women Finish First, Men Second at Ohio State Fall Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State swimming and diving teams wrapped up a strong three days at the Ohio State Fall Invitational on Saturday. The No. 7 women were the winners, recording 2,666 total points. The No. 15 men finished in second with 2,459 points.
Over the three-day meet, the Buckeyes recorded a total of 72 NCAA standard times and 19 NCAA Zones qualifying scores.
The day started off strong for the Buckeyes, with Krista Marlin setting a school record time of 2:10.49 in the long-course prelims. It is also an Olympic Trials qualifying time. She went on to win the 200 back finals with an NCAA B cut time of 1:52.49. Also recorded B cut times in the women's 200 back were Morgan Kraus (1:54.59) and Paige Hall (1:55.75).
Lyle Yost was the winner of the men's platform dive with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 378.05. Kylie Flory placed second with a score of 372.50, which is also an NCAA Zones score. Jack Matthews (322.30) and Mo Noaman (307.95) also turned in NCAA Zones qualifying scores.
An NCAA Zones qualifying score of 310.15 earned Ciara McGing a second-place finish on the platform. Janie Boyle placed fourth with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 248.40.
The energy during the men's 1650 free was electric as Sam Campbell and Alex Metzler raced to a first and second-place finish, respectively. Campbell touched the wall at 14:48.25, an NCAA B cut time, and Metzler recorded an NCAA B standard time of 14:52.69. Josh Bedford placed seventh, turning in the first NCAA B cut time of his career, a 15:12.10. Alex Axon (15:12.77) and Mason Edmund (15:14.69) finished eighth and ninth, respectively, and also turned in NCAA B cut times.
Maye Geringer finished second in the 1650 free with an NCAA B cut time of 15:56.28. Gwen Woodbury was just behind, placing third with a B cut time of 15:58.37. Mia Rankin also recorded an NCAA B standard time, finishing in 16:25.57 to place fifth overall.
Tristan Jankovics was the top finisher for the Buckeyes in the men's 200 back, placing fifth with an NCAA B cut time of 1:43.62. Luke Paxton finished seventh, touching the wall at 1:44.16, which is also a B cut time.
Amy Fulmer raced to a second-place finish in the 100 free with an NCAA B standard time of 47.68. Katherine Zenick (48.03) and Teresa Ivan (48.26) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with NCAA B cut times.
Ruslan Gaziev placed second in the men's 100 free; he swam the event in an NCAA B standard time of 42.36.
Josephine Panitz earned a second-place finish in the women's 200 breast; she recorded an NCAA B cut time of 2:08.27. Reese Dehen finished sixth with a B cut time of 2:13.14. Hannah Bach was the winner of the B final, touching the wall at 2:12.94, which is an NCAA B standard time.
In the men's 200 breast, Billy Regan placed eighth with an NCAA B standard time of 1:56.83.
Jessica Eden took third place in the 200 fly, turning in an NCAA B cut time of 1:57.86. Kyra Sommerstad (1:58.68), who placed seventh, also finished in an NCAA B cut time.
Chachi Gustafson was the winner of the C final of the men's 200 fly, turning in the fastest time for the Buckeyes; an NCAA B standard time of 1:43.05. In the A final, Caleb Ellis finished ninth with a time of 1:46.83.
The 400 free relay closed out the night at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The team of Zenick, Harrison, Ivan and Fulmer finished third with an NCAA A standard time of 3:13.19. For the men, the relay team of Navikonis, Daniel Baltes, Shaw Satterfield and Gaziev placed fourth, finishing in an NCAA B cut time of 2:51.67.
Also turning in Olympic Trials qualifying times in the morning were Amy Fulmer (55.14) and Katherine Zenick (55.69) in the 100 free and Josephine Panitz (2:31.54) in the 200 breast.
