NCAA Standard Times Abound for Buckeyes on Day 1 of Fall Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's and women's swimming and diving teams combined for 21 NCAA standard times and seven NCAA Zones qualifying scores on the first day of the Ohio State Fall Invitational on Thursday.
The No. 7 women are in first place with 791 total points, leading second-place Indiana by 80 points. The No. 15 men are in second with 760 points after the first day of competition.
The Buckeye women opened the night with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay. The relay team of Teresa Ivan, Katherine Zenick, Tristan Harrison, and Amy Fulmer turned in an NCAA A standard time of 1:27.00.
In the men's 200 free relay, the team of Daniel Baltes, Ruslan Gaziev, Evan Fentress, and Mario McDonald finished in an NCAA B standard time of 1:17.32 and placed third.
Maya Geringer (4:40.99) and Mia Rankin (4:47.08) both turned in NCAA B standard times in the 500 free. Geringer placed fourth and Rankin finished sixth. Liberty Gilbert won the B final with an NCAA B standard time of 4:46.30.
Tomas Navikonis was the first winner of the night for the Buckeyes, placing first in the 500 free with an NCAA B standard time of 4:15.65. Alex Axon followed, finishing second with an NCAA B standard time of 4:16.00. Also recording 500 free NCAA B standard times were Sam Campbell (4:19.44) and Alex Metzler (4:20.23). Campbell and Metzler placed second and third, respectively, in the B final.
The women's 200 IM went to Josephine Panitz, who touched the wall in an NCAA B standard time of 1:56.18. Paige Hall placed third, finishing in an NCAA B standard time of 1:57.22. Krista Marlin (1:59.49) also recorded an NCAA B standard time and placed seventh in the A final.
Tristan Jankovics won the men's 200 IM with an NCAA B standard time of 1:42.76. Earlier in the day, at prelims, Jankovics broke his own record in the 200 IM, with a long-course time of 1:59.05.
Janie Boyle won the 3-meter dive with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 338.55.
Ivan (21.98), Fulmer (21.99) and Zenick (22.39) swam in the A final of the 50 free and all recorded NCAA B standard times. Ivan placed fourth, Fulmer finished fifth and Zenick placed ninth. Nyah Funderburke won the C final with an NCAA B standard time of 22.30.
Gaziev took second in the men's 50 free with an NCAA B standard time of 19.30. Baltes finished eighth in the A final, finishing in an NCAA B standard time of 19.63.
Lyle Yost was the winner of the 1-meter dive, turning in an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 388.25. Also recorded NCAA Zones qualifying scores were Clayton Chaplin (364.70), Mo Noaman (340.30), Tyler Read (338.95), Kylie Flory (332.25) and Jack Matthews (313.15).
The Buckeyes placed first and second in the women's 400 medley relay with two NCAA A standard time. Placing first was the team of Harrison, Panitz, Zenick and Fulmer with a time of 3:28.10 and in second was the team of Funderburke, Hannah Bach, Morgan Kraus and Ivan with a time of 3:29.52.
During the morning's long-course prelims, Krista Marlin turned in an Olympic Trials qualifying time in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:15.31. Fulmer's time of 25.30 in the 50 free is also an Olympic Trials qualifying time.
