Buckeyes at Big Tens
- Five current members of the women's squad have raced in the last three Big Ten meets: Addie Engel, Andrea Kuhn, Danielle Santos, Akemi Von Scherr and Annie Allen. Last season Morgan Schmitt, Audrey DeSantis, Gia Napoleon. Samantha Coleman and Sydney Paul all ran at the conference meet for the first time.
- Engel, Kuhn, Santos and Von Scherr were among the Buckeye counters the last two seasons and Schmitt was the fifth counter a season ago.
- Last year, Engel won the program's first Big Ten Championship, covering the 6K course in 20:00. She was fourth in 2021 and is the first Buckeye to earn First Team All-Big Ten honors twice.
- Santos was fourth and Kuhn was sixth a season ago to earn First Team All-Big Ten honors. It was the first time three Buckeyes earned a spot on the first team.
- Ohio State has had at least one all-conference honoree each of the last four years and a Top 6 finisher for three years in a row, as Allie Guagenti was fifth in 2020.
- The women have finished a program-best fourth three times, as last year's squad matched the finish set by the 2014 and 1984 teams.
- For the men, Zubin Jha and John Cuozzo have raced for the Buckeyes in each of the last three Big Ten meets. Giovanni Copploe and Kaleb Martin ran in both 2021 and 2022 and Alex Dediu raced in the 2021 event, while Sean Carney, Keegan Souhan and Colby Adams ran in 2022.
- Ohio State's men's team has one Big Ten championship, in 1923, and finished runner-up eight times, most recently in 2009. The squad was eighth last season, with Copploe the Buckeyes' first finisher.
- The Buckeyes raced on the Big Ten meet course earlier this season at the Badger Classic Sept. 9. Engel captured the women's title, while most of the women's team was limited because of illness. For the men, Agnew, Copploe and Carney all recorded Top 10 finishes.
- The Buckeye women are receiving votes in the most recent USTFCCCA national rankings. In the Great Lakes Region, Ohio State is fourth, with Notre Dame No. 1, Michigan State No. 2, Wisconsin No. 3 and Michigan No. 5. Other B1G teams ranked in the region include No. 9 Indiana and No. 10 Purdue. The nationally-ranked Big Ten teams are No. 15 Michigan State and No. 22 Wisconsin. Â
- Ohio State was off last weekend, with the squads last competing at the Arturo Barrios Invitational hosted by Texas A&M Oct. 9. The women were fourth as a team, led by Top 3 finishes from Addie Engel and Daniella Santos, and Giovanni Copploe and Zubin Jha led the men with Top 30 spots.
- Engel, the defending Big Ten Champion and a 2023 All-American, has been named Big Ten Runner of the Week three times this season and was also recognized as the NCAA and USTFCCCA National Runner of the Week. She has placed in the Top 16 in 18 of her last 19 races (with the lone exception when she ran as an individual at the 2021 NCAA Championships). Engel started the year with first-place finishes at Wright State and Wisconsin, placed 11th at Virginia and was the runner-up at both Loyola and Texas A&M. She has 10 career Top 2 finishes.
- Santos has been second for the Scarlet and Gray each race, with Akemi Von Scherr third the last three times out.
- For the men this year, Jha has been the Buckeyes' top finisher twice and was second at Texas A&M. Kevin Agnew has been in the Buckeyes' Top 3 each race and was first for the squad at Wisconsin. Copploe was first for the Scarlet and Gray the last race and was second for OSU in Wisconsin.
The Schedule Ahead
- The Buckeyes will head back to Madison, Wis., for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships Nov. 10.
