
Buckeyes Earn Third in Team Competition at Big Ten Championships

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Ohio State men’s gymnastics team finished third in the team competition at the 2022 Big Ten Championships on Friday, hosted on Penn State’s campus, with a total of 402.700 points.
The Buckeyes began strong with two career-bests and sticks on rings – Donovan Hewitt (14.450) and Tyler Rockwood (13.750). Dexter Roettker (14.800) and Kameron Nelson (14.450) both tied their career-bests on vault with Roettker sticking his landing.
How it Happened
Rings
Ohio State scored 68.550 on rings to begin the meet, its highest team score of the season. Donovan Hewitt led the Buckeyes with a career-best 14.450, while Tyler Rockwood earned a career-high 13.750. Both Hewitt and Rockwood stuck their dismounts. Jesse Tyndall posted a 13.800. Kameron Nelson was just 0.050 off his career-high by earning a 13.700. Luke Smigliani rounded out the Buckeyes’ showing with a 12.850.
Vault
The Buckeyes’ 71.100 brought their team total to 139.650 after two rotations to keep ahold of the lead. Dexter Roettker led the squad by tying his career-best 14.800 with a stuck landing. Nelson also tied his career-best with a 14.450. Tyndall had a season-high 14.100, while Hewitt earned a 14.050 and Kazuki Hayashi had a 13.700.
Parallel Bars
Ohio State had its best showing of the season on the parallel bars, totaling 68.050 to lead the competition with 207.700 after three rotations. Tyndall led the Buckeyes with a stuck dismount and a 14.200, while Justin Ah Chow earned a season-best 14.050 and a stick. Andrew Brower and Jakob Murray each posted a 13.400 and Domenic Sciulli rounded out the OSU lineup with a 13.000.
High Bar
The Buckeyes wrapped up with a 63.900 on high bar as a team to sit in second place with 271.600. Tyndall led the team with his second stick of the meet and a 13.850. Sciulli followed with a 12.900, while Hayashi had a 12.750. Roettker posted a 12.500 and Hewitt wrapped up the lineup with an 11.900.
Floor
Ohio State totaled 68.100 on floor as a team to maintain its second-place standing (339.700) heading into the final rotation. Tyndall led the Buckeyes with a 14.100, while Murray’s season-best 13.650 was second among OSU’s roster. Hayashi stuck his final pass to earn a 13.600. Nelson (13.400) and Roettker (13.350) rounded out the Buckeyes’ lineup.
Pommel Horse
The Buckeyes wrapped up the meet with a 63.000 on pommel horse. Smigliani led the OSU squad with a season-best 13.600. Brower earned an even 13.000 and Curtis Chang a 12.900. Trevor Cummings had a 12.550, while Ah Chow finished up the Ohio State rotation with a 10.950.
All-Around
Tyndall finished second in the all-around competition with a score of 82.600. He earned sticks on parallel bars and high bar as well as a season-best score on vault. Tyndall led the Ohio State squad on parallel bars, high bar and floor. This is his highest all-around score of the season.
