Kameron Nelson Wins Big Ten Vault Championship

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Ohio State men’s gymnastics team wrapped up competition on Saturday evening at the Big Ten Championships with the individual event finals.
Kameron Nelson won the individual Big Ten vault championship with a career-best 14.800 and a stuck landing to secure his spot on the All-Big Ten First Team. Jesse Tyndall’s runner-up finish in the all-around competition on Friday earned him a spot on the All-Big Ten First Team. Dexter Roettker was the runner-up on vault to earn his spot on the All-Big Ten Second Team. Donovan Hewitt was named All-Big Ten Second Team after tying for third on rings. Roettker also received the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
How it Happened
Floor
Kazuki Hayashi earned a 13.675 to finish in fourth place. Jesse Tyndall totaled a 13.525, which was fifth overall. Jakob Murray got a 13.475, which was good for sixth.
Pommel Horse
Luke Smigliani was the lone Buckeye to compete on pommel horse, earning a 13.550 to finish fourth.
Rings
Tyndall led off the rings rotation with a 14.050 and ended up third overall. Hewitt also earned a 14.050 to tie for third. Kameron Nelson scored a 13.350 to finish seventh. Tyler Rockwood wrapped up the Buckeyes’ showing with a 12.800.
Vault
Nelson earned a career-best 14.800 and stuck his landing on vault to become the event champion. Dexter Roettker earned a 14.625 to finish as the runner-up.
Parallel Bars
Justin Ah Chow earned a season-best 14.075 and stuck his dismount to finish in fourth place overall. Tyndall finished in sixth with a 13.950.
High Bar
Tyndall earned a 13.625 to finish in fifth place.

Head Coach Rustam Sharipov: “I’m very proud of our guys and the way they competed hard this weekend. Thank you to our fans for being there and cheering us on. We will work on completing a full meet and work on our routines leading into the NCAA Championships in a couple weeks.”
