Ohio State Women Set for NCAA Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 6 Ohio State women’s swimming and diving program will send 16 student-athletes to the 2022 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships this week at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga. The Buckeyes will compete March 16-19 for a chance at a national title.
Overall, a total of 205 participants (183 swimmers and 22 divers) will compete in the championships. Swimmers qualified for the championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered. Divers qualified by performances achieved at the Zone Diving Championships.
The Buckeyes enter the meet after a program-best seventh-place finish in 2021. This year, the team qualified 14 for the championships, and will bring two relay alternates, to vie for a national championship.
Meet Schedule
The 2022 NCAA Championship meet begins Wednesday with the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relay. Prelims on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will begin at 10 a.m. with finals contested at 6 p.m.

Ohio State NCAA Championship Roster
Thirteen of the team’s fourteen qualifiers have swum at the national championship meet prior to this year. Katherine Zenick leads the returning Buckeyes with four All-America honors from 2021. Hannah Bach, Emily Crane, Amy Fulmer and Kristen Romano all earned three All-American nods last season while Katie Trace and Sally Tafuto took two. Mackenzie Crawford added another for the Buckeyes last year.
Freshman Nyah Funderburke makes her NCAA Championship debut this year in the 100 backstroke, after racing her qualifying time at the Big Ten Championships in February. Freshmen Teresa Ivan and Paige Hall, who are relay alternates for this year’s meet, could also make their first appearance at the NCAA Championships.
Along with the individual performers, the Buckeyes have qualified all five relays – 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle, 800 freestyle, 200 medley and 400 medley – for the championships.

OSU at the NCAA Championships
The Buckeyes earned a program-best seventh-place finish at the 2021 NCAA Championships. Ten student-athletes picked up a total of 28 All-America honors, both school records for Ohio State. The team finished with 215.5 points overall, besting the program’s most points scored by 92.5 points.
The team’s 2021 finish was the first time since 1983 that the team finished in the top 10.
There have been five individual NCAA champions in the history of the program, including Janelle Bosse (400 IM) and Karen LaFace (1M Dive) in 1987, Kim Fugett (3M Dive) in 1988, Natalia Idea (Platform) in 2003 and, most recently, Chelsea Davis (3M Dive) in 2008. Overall, 76 Buckeyes have earned at least one All-America honor.

ESPN3 will provide digital broadcast coverage for preliminary and finals sessions Wednesday through Saturday. Additionally, ESPNU will air a two-hour show at 7 p.m. Eastern time, Wednesday, March 30.
