
Top 10 Matchup Sunday in Columbus, as No. 4 Buckeyes Host No. 8 Pepperdine

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sunday, the No. 4 Ohio State women’s tennis team will take on No. 8 Pepperdine in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus. The Buckeyes enter the match 5-3, with the Waves 5-2. Admission to Sunday’s match is free, with parking also free.
Live scoring and video will be available for the match, along with a Cracked Racquet broadcast.

Buckeyes vs. Waves
- Ohio State is 2-0 all-time vs. Pepperdine.
- The teams first met in the opening round of 2016 ITA Kickoff Weekend in Fort Worth, Texas, with Ohio State posting a 4-3 victory. The next year the teams played a neutral site match in Tempe, Ariz., with the Buckeyes winning 6-1.
- Pepperdine, ranked eighth, is 5-2 on the year. The squad opened the campaign with a 4-3 home loss to California before downing Columbia and Notre Dame in Malibu, Calif., to advance to ITA National Indoors. After a home win over UCLA, the Waves beat Old Dominion and Cal, both 4-1, before falling to Oklahoma 4-2 in the semifinals at national indoors.
- In the ITA Rankings released Thursday, Pepperdine had seven ranked singles players – No. 12 Lisa Zaar, No. 21 Shiori Fukuda, No. 23 Taisiya Pachkaleva, No. 45 Victoria Flores, No. 88 Janice Tjen, No. 97 Nikki Redelijk and No. 117 Savannah Broadus – and three ranked doubles teams – No. 11 Flores/Zaar, No. 15 Broadus/Tjen and No. 34 Flores/Tjen.
- Pepperdine will play at Michigan Friday before taking on the Buckeyes Sunday.
In the Rankings
- The ITA released the first computer rankings this week, with Ohio State coming in at No. 4. It is the highest ranking since the squad was No. 2 March 3, 2020. Last season the Buckeyes reached a high of No. 5 March 30.
- In the Tennis Channel/USTA College Tennis Top 25, Ohio State was ranked ninth this week.
- Four Buckeyes and a doubles team were in the ITA singles rankings released Thursday. Irina Cantos Siemers was sixth, while Isabelle Boulais was No. 31, freshman Sydni Ratliff was No. 75 and Lucia Marzal was No. 116. The duo of Cantos Siemers and Ratliff moved back into the rankings at No. 31.
- All eight teams Ohio State has faced so far this season are in the Top 25 of the ITA Rankings this week, including six in the Top 15 (three in the Top 10). The current rankings of the Buckeyes’ 2022 foes: No. 1 North Carolina, No. 2 NC State, No. 10 Oklahoma State, No. 11 Auburn, No. 13 Florida, No. 14 Duke, No. 20 Tennessee and No. 23 Kentucky.
Buckeye This and That
- Ohio State last played Feb. 18, posting a 5-2 road win at Kentucky. After dropping the doubles point, Ohio State had singles wins from Irina Cantos Siemers, Sydni Ratliff, Kolie Allen, Lucia Marzal and Shelly Bereznyak for the team victory.
- Isabelle Boulais has been named Big Ten Player of the Week twice this season and Sydni Ratliff has also been recognized.
- Four of the Buckeyes’ eight matches this year have been decided by 4-3 scores. The Buckeyes are 2-2 in those contests.
- Boulais leads the Buckeyes with a 6-2 record in dual matches this spring, while Allen, Ratliff and Cantos Siemers each have five singles victories. Overall this season, Cantos Siemers is first with 20 singles victories. Ratliff is second with 15, followed by Marzal with 14 and Atway with 12.
- In doubles dual matches, Ratliff has a team-high four wins and Cantos Siemers, Marzal, Luna Dormet and Boulais each have three.
- In singles, Ohio State has compiled a 6-2 record on court three to lead the team, with a 5-2 mark on court one and 5-3 ledger on court two. Courts four and six have each recorded four wins.
The Schedule Ahead
- Ohio State will open Big Ten play with a 4 p.m. match at Penn State March 4 in University Park, Pa.
- The squad will then return to Columbus to host Xavier at noon March 13. That match is the Buckeyes’ lone home contest in March.
- The team will host five matches in Columbus in April.
- Admission is free to all regular season home matches and live video and scoring will be available.
