
No. 12/11 Buckeyes Tie Penn State, 2-2

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman goalie Jakub Dobeš had a career-high 46 saves as the No. 12/11 Ohio State men's hockey team skated to a 2-2 overtime tie at Penn State Friday in University Park, Pa. Each team earned one point in the Big Ten standings and Penn State won the shootout, 2-1 in four rounds, for the extra B1G point. The teams were tied at one after the first period and Ohio State took a 2-1 lead late in the second, but the Nittany Lions deadlocked the score in the third. Neither team was able to score in five minutes of 3-on-3 overtime hockey.
The Buckeyes, 9-1-2 in their last 12 games, are now 18-7-2 on the year and 10-5-2-0-1-1 in the Big Ten, standing in second place two points behind Michigan. Penn State moves to 14-12-1 and 5-11-1-1-1-1 in league play.
The teams will close the weekend and regular season series at 7 p.m. Saturday in University Park. The game will be streamed through B1G Plus and on Ohio State Radio.

"We were fortunate to get a tie. We didn't play well enough to win and didn't do enough of the things we need to do to be successful. We have to be better tomorrow."

How It Happened
- Penn State opened the scoring just 4:51 into the game on a Danny Dzhaniyev goal.
- Ohio State deadlocked the score just over three minutes later. Mason Lohrei passed to James Marooney, who came down the left wing and found Cam Thiesing in front for a redirection, tying the game at one at 8:05.
- Shots were 11-9 in favor of Penn State in the period and the Nittany Lions had the only two power play chances.
- Penn State controlled play through a good portion of the second period, with 15 of the first 20 shots on goal. Ohio State had eight of the final nine though, including a Joe Dunlap score from right in front at 15:48 for a 2-1 Buckeye lead. Jake Wise and Ryan O'Connell assisted on the tally, Dunlap's fifth of the season.
- Shots ended with Penn State ahead, 16-13, in the second period. Ohio State had two of the three power play chances in the period, with the second carrying into the third.
- Penn State tied the game at 5:52 of the third when Ben Schoen tallied.
- Jakub Dobeš stopped the final 18 shots he faced, including 15 straight to close out the third period (including two in the final five seconds).
- Ohio State was outshot 18-6 in the third and had the only power play time.
- In overtime, Penn State put three shots on net, Ohio State two. There was just one stoppage of play in the five minutes of 3-on-3, which came with 2.5 seconds remaining.
- The Buckeyes were outshot, 48-30, in the game. Dobeš played all 65 minutes and had 46 saves for Ohio State. James Marooney, Cole McWard, Lohrei and Wise each had two shot blocks to lead Ohio State, which totaled 15 as a team.
- Each team was unable to score on two power play chances in the contest and each team had four penalty minutes.
- Neither team scored in the first two shootout rounds. Eric Cooley notched his second shootout goal of the year to start round three, but Penn State answered. A Penn State save started the fourth round and the Nittany Lions converted for the shootout win.

- Dobeš is 17-6-2 this season, with a 2.06 goals-against average and .934 save percentage. He has 30-plus saves in each of the last seven games.
- Lohrei leads the Buckeyes with 21 assists and is second with 23 points.
