COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman goalie Jakub Dobeš had 51 saves and 13 Buckeyes had a point as the No. 12/11 Ohio State men's hockey team shut out Penn State, 6-0, Saturday in University Park, Pa. Jake Wise led the Buckeyes with two goals and three points, while Joe Dunlap had a goal and an assist and Michael Gildon and Quinn Preston each had two assists to pace the Buckeye scorers, who scored two goals in each period.
Ohio State earned four Big Ten points in the weekend series with an overtime tie and shootout loss Friday and the win Saturday and won 10 of 12 points in the regular season series with the Nittany Lions (3-0-1).
The Buckeyes, 10-1-2 in their last 13 games, are now 19-7-2 on the year and 11-5-2-0-1-1 in the Big Ten. Penn State is 14-13-1 and 5-12-1-1-1-1 in league play.

The Short Story
Jake Wise scored twice in the first period, with Michael Gildon posting an assist on both tallies, which came at 12:10 and 17:37. Joe Dunlap tallied early in the second and Georgii Merkulov extended the lead to 4-0 at 12:03. In the third, Mason Lohrei scored 1:05 into the period on the power play and Tate Singleton notched the game's final goal at 14:41. Jakub Dobeš had 51 saves in the game for the shutout, with 17 stops in the first, 15 in the second and 19 in the third. Ohio State had a season-high 26 blocked shots and was 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

How It Happened
- Jake Wise scored twice in the first – 5:27 apart – and the Buckeyes led 2-0 after the first period.
- The first goal came at 12:10, as Wise redirected a shot from Will Riedell. At 17:37 Wise scored off a pass from Joe Dunlap, who found him all alone at the far post.
- Michael Gildon had the second assist on both Wise tallies.
- Shots were 17-10 in favor of Penn State in the first, who had the only power play (with just one shot on goal during the man advantage).
- Dunlap scored a goal of his own at 1:58 of the second period, scoring off a pass from Cam Thiesing on a 2-on-1. Wise had the second assist, as he cleared the puck out of the zone to Thiesing.
- At 12:03 Georgii Merkulov scored from the right wing on an odd-man rush, with assists to Quinn Preston and James Marooney.
- Penn State had the shot advantage, 15-8, in the middle period. Each team had one power play chance, with a second Ohio State opportunity carrying into the third.
- Just 1:05 into the third period Mason Lohrei had a shot from the high slot get through on the power play for a 5-0 Ohio State lead. Cole McWard and Preston assisted on the tally.
- The final goal came from Tate Singleton, who scored from right in front off an assist from Travis Treloar, with Gustaf Westlund also assisting.
- The Buckeyes were outshot, 19-9, in the third period. Ohio State was 1-for-2 on the power play in the stanza, including the carry-over chance, and Penn State was 0-for-1.
- For the game, the Buckeyes were outshot, 51-27. Jakub Dobeš played all 60 minutes and had a career-high 51 saves for his third career shutout.
- The Buckeyes blocked 26 shots, led by Jaedon Leslie and Grant Gabriele with four apiece and Marooney, Preston and Riedell with three each.
- Each team had three power play chances, with Ohio State scoring the only power play goal.

- Dobeš is 18-6-2 this season, with a 1.98 goals-against average and .938 save percentage. He has 30-plus saves in each of the last eight games. It was his third shutout of the season.
- In the series at Penn State Dobeš had 97 saves on 99 shots, for a .980 save percentage and .96 goals-against average.
- It was the first 50-plus save game for a Buckeye since Christian Frey had 56 at Penn State Jan. 20, 2017 and the 16th game with 50-plus saves for a Buckeye goalie in program history.
- Wise had his first collegiate two-goal and three-point game. He has a 9-14-23 line this season to tie for third on the squad.
- Merkulov leads the Buckeyes with 15 goals and 28 assists.
- Lohrei now has 24 points on the year to rank second on the team, including a team-best 21 assists.
- Preston had his second two-assist game in the last three outings and his third of the season. He has 17 points, with 11 assists, this season.
- Gildon had his first career two-assist and two-point night in the Scarlet and Gray.
- The game was the first time Penn State was shut out since January 2020.
- Ohio State is 8-3-2 on the road this year.
- Ohio State has allowed two or fewer goals in 20 games and is holding opponents to 2.07 goals per game on the year.
- The Buckeye offense is averaging 3.64 goals a night and has eight games with more than four goals. It was the team's second six-goal win of the season.
