
Buckeyes Earn Series Split With 3-1 Win Over the Bulldogs

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women’s hockey team defeated No. 8 Minnesota Duluth on Saturday afternoon, 3-1. With the win, the Buckeyes (18-4-0, 14-4-0 WCHA) split the series with the Bulldogs (14-8-0, 11-7-0) and split the season series 2-2-0.
How it Happened
Jenna Buglioni scored the Buckeyes’ first goal of the weekend to get the team going at 10:39 in the first period. Sophie Jaques drove to the goal, slipping the puck to Buglioni who netted the back door shot. Jenn Gardiner earned the second assist on the goal.
Ohio State scored again in the first period, this time it was Jaques lighting the lamp. The senior recovered the puck at center ice and took it to the net herself, taking a backhanded shot off her initial rebounded shot.
The teams went scoreless through the second period, but Ohio State dominated the frame with 17 shots while holding the Bulldogs to just six.
The Buckeyes netted their final goal of the game at 15:17 in the third period. Clair DeGeorge connected with Paetyn Levis on the give-and-go to put the Buckeyes up 3-0 on the Bulldogs.
Minnesota Duluth scored one of their own at 15:31 in the third, but Ohio State denied any other Bulldog attempts to keep a two-goal lead.
Amanda Thiele was between the posts for Ohio State, making 18 saves on the day.
Game Notes
- With a goal and an assist in game two against Minnesota Duluth, Sophie Jaques continues to lead the team in goal (39) and assists (24).
- Amanda Thiele earned her seven start of the season, and third consecutive start, on Saturday. With the win, she improves to 8-1-0 in net for the Buckeyes. She totaled 45 saves on the weekend.
- Claire DeGeorge played in her 150th game for her career on Saturday. She has played in all 22 of the Buckeyes games this season and played in 138 at Bemidji State.
- Ohio State improves to 4-4-0 against ranked opponents this season. The team split both its series against No. 8 Minnesota Duluth this year, swept then-No. 4 Minnesota and lost two games to No. 1 Wisconsin.
- For the first time this season, no Buckeyes committed a penalty in a game. There were no penalties by either team in the contest.
- The Buckeyes improve to 11-1-0 on home ice this year.
