Ohio State Drops Overtime Contest to UAB

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State (1-1-0) fell to UAB (1-1-0) 2-1 in overtime Sunday in the final game of the 2021 Wolstein Classic at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Dayton earned the event championship with a 1-0-1 record followed by UAB, Ohio State and Memphis (0-1-1).
How it Happened
Luke Kiley put the Buckeyes on the board in 8' from a Laurence Wootton set pass off a free kick to the front left of the net. The Blazers evened the score at 1-all in the 17' minute on a goal by Nathaniel St. Louis. The teams entered their locker rooms after the first 45' tied at 1-all.
Neither team was able to score in the second half, sending the contest into a 10-minute overtime. The Blazers scored in the 91st minute to earn the win. The Buckeyes were playing down a player after sophomore Laurence Wootton got his second yellow/red card of the game in the 84th minute.
- Luke Kiley's goal in the 8' was his second career score and first of the season. Wootton's assist was the first of the season and third of his career for the Ohio State captain.
- This year marked the 15th season in which the Wolstein Classic has been held on the Ohio State campus. The Buckeyes are 22-15-7 all-time in the event.
- Ohio State holds a 118-66-31 record in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium since the facility opened in 1999.
- The Buckeyes met UAB for the first time.

Notes
- Several Buckeyes played for the first time in Scarlet and Gray. Freshman Tommaso Villa earned his first career start while classmate Joakim Jahnsen saw action for the first time as well.
- In the third game of the event played between Dayton (1-0-1) and Memphis (0-1-1) earlier in the day, the teams each scored a goal in the first half but held each other scoreless rest of the way for a double-overtime draw. The start of the game was delayed 41 minutes with lightening in the area.
- The Ohio State vs. UAB game was delayed in the 68' because of lightening in the Columbus area. The game was resumed at 7:40 p.m. after a 40-minute delay.
