COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's tennis team ended its run in the NCAA tournament with a 4-1 loss to Texas Sunday afternoon at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. The Longhorns, the tournament's No. 2 seed, improve to 28-1 and advance to face No. 7 Florida State. Ohio State, the No. 15 seed, finishes its team season 23-4.
The loss ended a 15-match winning streak for the Buckeyes, who were the Big Ten regular season co-champion and claimed the Big Ten Tournament title. The 23 wins were the third-most in program history for Ohio State and the squad hosted NCAA first and second round matches for the third time. Ohio State was making a seventh-consecutive NCAA appearance and the 17th in program history.
Quoting head coach Melissa Schaub
"Texas is a very good team and they played too well for us today. At the same time, I couldn't be prouder of our team. We didn't play our best tennis but we fought and competed as hard as we could out there. We accomplished a lot this season during a very difficult year. We have a lot returning next year and I hope we can remember this feeling and try to build on it."
