Ohio State, Michigan Set for Four-Game Weekend Series

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Another chapter in the history of the Ohio State-Michigan softball series will be written this weekend when the Buckeyes and Wolverines meet for four games at Buckeye Field from Friday-Sunday. The entire weekend series will be streamed on BTN Plus with links to live stats available at OhioStateBuckeyes.com. There is no general public ticket availability for the Buckeyes’ home games.

Briefly on the Buckeyes

Ohio State is 12-7 on the season and currently riding a season-high five-game winning streak.
The Buckeyes won three games against Penn State last weekend, outscoring the Nittany Lions 20-4.
Ohio State is fourth in the Big Ten with a .276 team batting average.
Tegan Cortelletti leads the way with a .394 average and 26 hits in 66 at-bats. She’s also a perfect 12-for-12 in stolen bases.
Sam Hackenbracht, this week’s Big Ten Player of the Week, is hitting .333 with four home runs, 12 RBI and a team-best .711 slugging percentage.
In the circle, the Buckeyes possess a 2.12 team ERA, good for sixth-best in the conference, led by the duo of Payton Buresch and Allison Smith.
Buresch’s 1.51 ERA is the eighth-best in the conference. Last weekend at Penn State, she tossed 11.0 innings and allowed just four hits and one run.
Smith, meanwhile, is fifth in the league with seven wins thus far and is striking out an average of one batter per inning (64 Ks, 62.0 innings pitched).
On defense, Ohio State is tied for the league lead with 11 double plays turned.

Attendance Policy Update

There will not be any general public ticket availability for the sports of baseball, softball, field hockey and men’s and women’s tennis.
There are too few tickets available for those sports after tickets are allocated to family members of the student-athletes and coaching staffs of the competing teams.
Any remaining tickets will be offered to groups such as students, donors and/or season ticket holders.

This and That

Over the last 10 games, the Buckeyes bats have come alive. Ohio State is hitting .341 as a team since March 13 with five starters who are at .400 or better.
Hackenbracht has 12 hits in 25 at-bats during that span with four home runs, 12 RBI and a 1.080 slugging percentage.
Tegan Cortelletti (.455), Ashley Prange (.423), Niki Carver (.409) and Mariah Rodriguez (.400) have also been hot.
Thirty-three of Ohio State’s 88 hits over the last 10 games have gone for extra bases (37.5 percent).
Cortelletti has a team-high nine multi-hit games this year, including three outings with three hits.
She’s currently sixth in the conference is batting average and fourth in total hits.
Niki Carver is six hits shy of 100 for her career. She is also the team’s active career leader with 15 home runs.

Hackenbracht Powers Offense at Penn State

There wasn’t much more that Sam Hackenbracht could have done at the plate in two games at Penn State last weekend.
The sophomore from Massillon, Ohio hit .833 with a .857 on-base percentage, belted three home runs and drove in eight.
In the nightcap of Saturday’s doubleheader, she was 4-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI.
Hackenbracht reached base in six of her seven plate appearances.

A Total Team Effort

The Buckeyes’ 12 wins this year have come as a result of both timely hitting and consistent pitching.
The Buckeyes rank fifth in the conference in total runs scored (79) and their average of 4.1 runs per game is also fifth.
Ohio State’s 144 hits as a team is second only to Northwestern and Illinois.
Only Northwestern has a better slugging percentage that’s Ohio State .412 and Ohio State is third in the conference in home runs (12).
The Buckeyes’ pitching staff ranks in the top half of the conference in total earned runs allowed (sixth), batting average against (fourth), and hits allowed (fourth).
