COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman Emily Londot and sophomore Mac Podraza were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Team, the organization announced Wednesday. Londot received second team All-American laurels while Podraza earned honorable mention accolades.
It is the first All-American award for both Buckeyes and under the guidance of head coach Jen Flynn Oldenburg. The last time Ohio State had two All-Americans in the same season was in 2016 with Taylor Sandbothe (second team) and Taylor Hughes (honorable mention). Since 1989, Ohio State was seen 22 different Buckeyes corral a total of 34 AVCA All-America honors.
Londot had an outstanding rookie campaign and garnered multiple postseason plaudits. She was the AVCA Northeast Region Freshman of the Year and Big Ten Freshman of the Year for her efforts. The AVCA All-Region and unanimous first team All-Big Ten selection led the Buckeyes and the Big Ten freshman class with 4.07 kills per set and 371 points. Londot recorded nine double-doubles, including four straight to close the season, and had double-digit kills in all 20 matches. The Big Ten All-Freshman Team performer had at least 20 kills on six occasions.
Podraza secured AVCA All-Region recognition after averaging 10.90 assists per set to rank 17th in the country and second in the Big Ten. The setter topped the conference and checked in at No. 11 nationally behind 883 total assists. A first team All-Big Ten honoree, she tallied at least 40 assists in 17 contests and handed out 50-plus helpers five times. Podraza was a four-time Big Ten Setter of the Week this season and became the first Buckeye to earn the honor three weeks in a row (Feb. 22-March 8).
