
No. 9 Buckeyes Notch 4-3 Win over No. 14 Wolverines

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 9-ranked Ohio State women's tennis team notched a 4-3 road win over No. 14 Michigan Sunday in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines won the first match between the teams this season by the same score in Columbus Feb. 28. Both matches came down to a third set on court one.
The Buckeyes (15-3) and Wolverines (12-2) are both now 12-1 in Big Ten play, with Northwestern 11-1 and currently playing Wisconsin.
On the road Sunday, the Buckeyes won the doubles point for a 1-0 lead, clinching the point with a win in a tiebreak on court two. The Wolverines tied the match with a court five singles win, but Ohio State's Luna Dormet answered on court six for a 2-1 Ohio State advantage and an Isabelle Boulais victory on court two put Ohio State ahead 3-1. Michigan tied the match with wins on courts four and three, leaving court one to decide the team victory. Buckeye Irina Cantos Siemers rallied after dropping the first set to force a third. She made an early break stand and was able to serve out the match to clinch Ohio State's victory.

In Doubles
- Ohio State continued its streak of winning the doubles point, taking a 1-0 lead for the 13th straight match.
- Against the Wolverines, the doubles point came down to a tiebreaker on court two.
- The Wolverines won a matchup of ranked teams on court one, with No. 57 Chiara Lommer and Jaedan Brown defeating the Buckeyes' No. 65-ranked tandem of Isabelle Boulais and Kolie Allen, 6-2. The loss was just the second for the Buckeyes this spring (10-2).
- Ohio State's Irina Cantos Siemers and Luna Dormet followed with a 6-4 win over Andrea Cerdan and Gala Mesochoritou on court three. The Ohio State duo is 9-0 in dual matches this spring.
- On court two, Buckeye Lucia Marzal and Lisa Hofbauer faced Nicole Hammond and Kari Miller. The Wolverines were up a break early but Ohio State was able to get back on serve with a break and hold for a 3-3 match. The teams traded holds to force a tiebreaker, won by the Buckeyes, 7-3 after taking an early 3-1 advantage. Marzal and Hofbauer are now 8-2 overall and in B1G matches.
In Singles
- The teams split the singles matches, with three going to a third set.
- Michigan's No. 105-ranked Brown topped Marzal on court five, 6-3, 6-2, to tie the match and Dormet answered for Ohio State as she defeated Hammond, 6-4, 6-2, on court six.
- The teams again traded wins. On court two, Buckeye Boulais was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Chiara Lommer. No. 115 Mesochoritou rallied to defeat Allen, 5-7, 6-0, 7-5, winning the final four games.
- On court three, Cerdan and Hofbauer went to a third set. The Wolverine won the first set, 6-4, before the Buckeye won the second, 6-3. Cerdan broke for a 4-3 lead and closed out the set, 6-3, to tie the team score at three.
- On court one, No. 15 Cantos Siemers faced No. 38 Miller. The Wolverine won the first set, 6-4, and Cantos Siemers prevailed in the second, 6-2. In the third, Cantos Siemers got an early break (2-1) and led the rest of the way, including a hold on the no-ad point for 5-3. She won the set on her serve, 6-4. When the teams met in February, it was Miller who defeated Cantos Siemers in a third set tiebreak to clinch the Wolverines' victory.
- Dormet improved to 13-1 this spring in dual matches (10-1 B1G) and is 15-1 overall. Boulais is now 9-5 overall and 8-4 in the B1G. Cantos Siemers has a 13-4 dual record and is 10-3 vs. conference foes, tying Marzal for overall wins with 16 each. Marzal's loss was her first in Big Ten play this year (11-1).

- After a bye next weekend, the Buckeyes close the regular season with three straight home matches.
- The squad will host Minnesota April 9 and Wisconsin April 11, with both matches at noon.
- The regular season finale is set for 10 a.m. April 17 vs. Penn State.
- All three matches are slated to be played outdoors at the Auer Tennis Complex.
