Spencer/Bennett reach doubles final

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Members of the Ohio State women's tennis team were in Urbana, Ill., for the ITA Midwest Regional Championships hosted by Illinois. The event ran Thursday through Monday, Oct. 8-12.

The doubles tandem of Audrey Spencer and Anna Bennett, the No. 9 seed, posted five consecutive wins to reach the doubles final, dropping the championship match to Michigan's No. 1-seeded duo of Reese Miller and Piper Charney, 6-3, 6-1.

Freshman Lucy Oyebog led the Buckeyes in singles, advancing to the quarterfinals in the 64-player draw. Her classmate Anna Bennett won two matches in qualifying to reach the main draw, where she posted a first-round win. Spencer and Flora Johnson notched first-round victories before falling in round two. The doubles tandem of Alessia Cau and Oyebog advanced to the quarterfinals with three wins before losing to the Wolverine duo of Charney and Miller. Cau and Hephzibah Oluwadare both recorded a win in consolation. The singles and doubles victories were the first collegiate wins for both Bennett and Oyebog.
