All-American is now a five-time Big Ten Player of the Week honoree
COLUMBUS, Ohio – After claiming the season-opening ITA All-American Championships singles title, and making a run to the doubles final, senior Luciana Perry of the Ohio State women's tennis team was named Big Ten Player of the Week Wednesday. She is now a five-time league player of the week selection. Â
At the All-American Championships, Perry earned NCAA berths in both singles and doubles with partner Flora Johnson. She will be making her fourth NCAA singles appearance at the national championships in November and her second trip in doubles.Â
As the All-Americans champion, Perry received ITA All-America accolades. She is the first Buckeye to earn singles All-America recognition four times and she also was named a doubles All-American last year.Â
Perry is the second Buckeye, and first since Francesca Di Lorenzo in 2016, to win the All-American singles title. At the tournament, No. 2 seed Perry won six matches, dropping just two sets– one in her first round match and one in the semifinals. In both, she came back to win after falling in the first set. Sunday, Perry rolled to the title, defeating Duke's Mimi Xu, 6-2, 6-1. Â
In doubles, Perry and Johnson, the No. 3 seed, won four matches, with three in a super tiebreaker, to reach the final before falling to a team from North Carolina.Â
