COLUMBUS, Ohio – Another runner-up finish from jumps specialist Clarence Foote-Talley highlighted the second day of competition for the Ohio State men's and women's track and field teams, who are competing at the 2021 Big Ten Conference indoor championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
The Ohio State men sit in eighth place with 17 points. Ohio State's women are in 10th place with six points. Champions will be crowned in 12 individual events and the 4×400 relay on Saturday followed by the awarding of the team titles for the men and women. Men's action starts at 11 a.m. and the women's championship Saturday will start at 4 p.m.
Two days. Two personal best performances. And two runner-up finishes for the second-year talent Foote-Talley, who travelled a personal best 16.26m/53-4 ¼ through the air today in the triple jump to claim second and score eight more points for the men. Yesterday he set a personal best of 7.53m/24-8 ½ in the first long jump competition he's been in in over a year to also finish second.
The triple jump was the only final involving a Buckeye on the men's team Friday. But there was plenty of action in front of Saturday. In all, Ohio State qualified 11 men through the preliminary rounds into Saturday's finals, including seven on Friday:
- Like he did in the 200, Tyler Johnson posted the top prelim time on Friday in the 400 of 45.86. He'll be joined in that final by Evan Matthews (personal best 47.08) and Donnie James (47.68).
- Three Buckeyes will be in the 800 final as well: Cameron Cooper (a season's best of 1:49.78 that is just off his career best of 1:49.33), Nick Miller (1:50.22) and Frank Hayes (1:51.60) qualified today.
- And Kainnan Ramsey just missed his personal best of 6.81 in the 60 today, but still went really fast with a 6.82 time that ensured him a place in the final.
The women moved three individuals into Saturday's finals, which include 10 events that did not have preliminary races or competitions.
- Yanique Dayle qualified for the 60-meter finals in the fourth position with a time of 7.50. Marcia Sey set a personal best in the race, running 7.59.
- Senior Aziza Ayoub has qualified for the 800 finals four consecutive years, and she did so this year behind a personal best run of 2:08.58.
- Allie Guagenti, third yesterday in the 3,000 meters with a school record time, today qualified sixth for the finals in the mile with a time of 4:50.30.
