
Record Day Pushes No. 2 Ohio State Past St. Cloud State, 10-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Records were broken and career-highs were set Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink as the No. 2 Ohio State women’s hockey team defeated St. Cloud State, 10-1. The Buckeyes (8-2-0, 8-2-0 WCHA) swept the series with the Huskies after earning a 5-2 victory in game one.
How it Happened
Ohio State wasted no time getting the scoring starting Saturday afternoon as Paetyn Levis scored her first goal of the game, and the team’s first goal, at 1:18 into the game. Jenn Gardiner followed five minutes later with another goal to give the Buckeyes an early two-score advantage. St. Cloud State managed to score at 13:08 in the period to close out scoring for the opening frame.
The rest of the game was dominated by Ohio State, as the team rattled off seven second period goals and added an eighth unanswered goal in the third period. Scoring in the second period was Gabby Rosenthal, Lexi Templeman, Gardiner, Levis, Hartmetz, Bink and Jaques.
Jaques scored the Buckeyes’ final two goals of the game and one of two power play goals for Ohio State. Levis, who also scored two goals in the contest, also scored on the power play.
Between the pipes for Ohio State was Raygan Kirk and Quinn Kuntz. Kirk played the first two periods while Kuntz played the third period, and both made five saves.
Game Notes
- With 10 goals in game two against St. Cloud State, Ohio State tied the program record for goals in a game. The last time the Buckeyes scored 10 goals in a game was Oct. 27, 2012, in a 10-1 win over Bemidji State. The team also recorded 29 points to set a program-high points in a game. The previous record was 28 set in the aforementioned Bemidji State game.
- The Buckeyes scored seven goals in the second period, breaking the program single-period goals record by two.
- Sophie Jaques, Paetyn Levis and Jenn Gardiner scored two goals Saturday against the Huskies. Levis scored two goals in both games of the series to lead the team with four goals on the weekend. Gardiner recorded a career-high and team-high four points in the game, adding two assists in the second period.
- Fourteen Buckeyes recorded at least one point in game two against St. Cloud State. Clair DeGeorge tied her career-high points and assists in a game with three. Sophie Jaques tied her career-high points in a game and goals in a game with three and two, respectively. She has reached those career highs once before, and previously this season, against Minnesota on 10/1/21.
- With two assists for the Buckeyes on Saturday, Liz Schepers is just six points away (94) from 100 points for her career. The 100-point club is a feat only 12 Ohio State women’s hockey players have accomplished. Emily Curlett is also nearing the 100-point milestone adding one assist against the Huskies to bring her total to 96 points. She recorded 91 of her previous points playing for Robert Morris.
- Gabby Rosenthal added another goal Saturday to remain Ohio State’s goal leader this season with eight on the year. She has scored a goal in five of the team’s last six games.
- Jenna Buglioni’s point streak remains intact with an assist against St. Cloud. She has scored a point in every game this season for the Buckeyes.
- Ohio continues to excel on the penalty kill this season, refusing to give up a goal on 28 opponent power play opportunities.
