Ohio State Advances to Frozen Four With 6-1 Win Over Yale

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 1 Ohio State women's hockey team was the fourth and final team to punch its ticket to the 2026 Women's Frozen Four, defeating No. 8 Yale, 6-1, Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink in the Columbus Regional Final of the 2026 NCAA tournament.
The Buckeyes (35-4-0) join No. 2 seed Wisconsin, No. 3 seed Penn State and No. 5 seed Northeastern in this year's Frozen Four.
Short Story
The game was tied 1-1 at the first intermission after a back-and-forth first period. Ohio State went on to score five unanswered goals to come away with the win.
Buckeye netminder Hailey MacLeod was great in goal yet again. The senior finished the game with 22 saves, holding her fourth straight opponent to one or less goals for the fifth consecutive game.
Ohio State was led in scoring by junior forward Jocelyn Amos with two goals and two assists for four points on the day. She also led the team with 13 faceoff wins in the game. Senior forward Sloane Matthews recorded her second two-goal performance in three games and finished the day with three points. Matthews also blocked a team-high two shots on the day.

How it Happened
- Both teams scored in the opening period. Ohio State was first on the board at 6:01 in the game with Jocelyn Amos netting a backhanded shot off the rebound from Joy Dunne. Yale tied the game at 11:25. Ohio State thought it scored with 3:22 to play in the first, but the play was called no goal on the ice.
- The Buckeyes outshot the Bulldogs, 20-5, in the opening frame. Yale goaltender Samson Frey made 19 saves in the period to keep the Bulldogs knotted with Ohio State after 20 minutes.
- Ohio State tallied three goals in the second period. The game-winner went to Kaia Malachino, who scored at 3:39 in the middle frame right after a Buckeye power play had expired.
- The Bulldogs had four shots on goal in the period, including one at 4:35 that looked like it would tie the game but MacLeod stretched out and got her toe on it to keep the Buckeyes ahead, 2-1.
- Sloane Matthews extended the Ohio State lead at 6:36. She sent a shot from the faceoff circle on goal and the rebound was knocked in by a Bulldog.
- The Buckeyes took a 4-1 lead after Jordan Baxter's goal at 14:53 in the second period. She skated the puck behind the Bulldog goal and sent a wraparound shot between the legs of Frey.
- Ohio State added two more goals in the third period, with Matthews scoring 1:57 into the frame and Amos tallying the final goal of the day with 1:25 to play in the game.
- Yale put 14 shots on goal in the third period in an attempt to extend their season, but MacLeod didn't let anything through.
- Ohio State advances to its sixth straight Frozen Four with the win. The Buckeyes are now 13-4 all-time in the NCAA tournament.
- Amos' four-point game ties her career high. She has recorded four points in five games of her career.
- The Buckeyes are now 4-1 all-time against Yale, with their second straight win over the Bulldogs in the NCAA tournament.
- Ohio State closes the 2025-26 home schedule 17-2-0 at the OSU Ice Rink. The team's 17 wins are the second most on home ice in a season. Seniors Brooke Disher, Emma Peschel, Sloane Matthews, Hailey MacLeod and Sara Swiderski all played in their final game at the OSU Ice Rink on Saturday.
