MSOC: Ohio State Captures 1-0 Win Over UIC in Wolstein Final
The Buckeyes capture first win of the year in final game of 2019 Wolstein Classic.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's soccer team (1-1) captured its first win of the 2019 season with a 1-0 victory over UIC Sunday with the lone goal scored by redshirt sophomore Devyn Etling in the 57th minute.
The contest was suspended in the 53rd minute tied 0-0 because of weather. The game was delayed for an hour and 45-minutes.
The Buckeyes finished in second place in the Wolstein Classic at 1-1, behind CSUN who finished 2-0.
MATCH SUMMARY
- The Buckeyes took control of the match in the opening minutes, reeling off five shots in the first 14 minutes.
- UIC fought back, earning two corners, before Elias McCloud drew his second yellow card of the match in the 34th minute to get tagged with a red card and put the Flames down a man for the remainder of the contest.
- Coming out of the half, play just started to ramp up before torrential wind and rain hit, forcing the game to be stopped in the 53rd minute.
- Following the hour and 45-minute delay, Ohio State wasted no time, keeping on the attack in UIC territory.
- In the 57th minute, Osman Fofanah got the ball at midfield, hit a through pass to Jack Holland who put a cross in to Devyn Etling sliding in off the left side from 6 yards out to net his first goal of the season and fourth of his career.
- UIC threatened multiple times late in the half but were fended off by Ohio State until the 90-minute buzzer sounded.

- Ohio State moves to 21-14-7 all-time in the Wolstein Classic.
- The match was delayed one hour and 45 minutes because of heavy rain and lightning.
