COLUMBUS, Ohio – Following an undefeated weekend for the Ohio State women’s lacrosse team (5-1 overall), sophomore attacker Sophie Baez is the Big Ten Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the office announced on Tuesday.
Baez, from Milton, Ga., scored a career-high eight points from five goals and three assists in the team’s 16-12 win against Niagara on Sunday, March 3 at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center in Columbus, Ohio. In Baez’s offensive frenzy, she scored a man-down goal and picked up two ground balls.
The fire was sparked for Baez against Marquette on Friday, March 1 at Ohio Stadium, when she scored her second goal of the season and added two assists. Her goal and one of her assists gave Ohio State the lead in a game with nine lead changes overall.
The award is the first of Baez’s career, and the third offensive weekly honor for the Buckeyes this season. Senior attacker Baley Parrott was the most recent Buckeye to earn the award (Feb. 19).
Ohio State closes out a six-game homestand on Saturday, March 9 against Binghamton at noon at Ohio Stadium.
