
Buckeyes Drop Game Two vs. Purdue Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team fell, 8-2, against Purdue Saturday afternoon at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. The Boilermakers (30-17, 14-5 B1G) scored five times in the top of the sixth in route to the road victory over the Buckeyes (32-17, 12-8 B1G).
GAME SUMMARY
– Both teams traded runs in the second. Purdue manufactured a run in the top on a RBI ground out. Junior left fielder Tyler Cowlestied the game in the bottom on one swing of the bat when he powered a 2-0 pitch off Purdue left-handed starter Gareth Stroh for a solo homer over the right field wall.
– The Boilermakers regained the lead in the top of the fourth after an RBI single and passed ball.
– Ohio State scored a run in the bottom of the fifth when a double play with the bases loaded push Noah West
– Purdue hung a five spot in the sixth. The Boilermakers were given the first two runs after a hit by pitch and walk with the bases loaded. Lead-off hitter Harry Shipley had the big hit of the game with a bases-clearing double down the right field line and two outs on the board.
– Right-handed starting pitcher Ryan Feltnerreceived the loss to fall to 4-4 on the year. In 5.2 innings of work, he gave up seven runs, six earned, on five hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.
– Right-handed reliever Kyle Michalik pitched 0.1 innings and gave one run on one hit with one walk.
– Left-handed pitcher Griffan Smith gave up two hits and had three strikeouts in the final three innings.

Ohio State and Purdue conclude the series at 1:05 p.m. Sunday at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. It will be Senior Day for the Buckeyes. Fifth-year senior right-handed pitcher Adam Niemeyer (3-2, 5.79 ERA) will be on the mound for the Buckeyes. TBA for Purdue starter. – With the loss, the Buckeyes will play their fifth rubber match game in a Big Ten series on Sunday (sixth overall). Ohio State is 4-1 in rubber match contests this season.

– Cowles hit his sixth homer of the year and ninth of his career.
– Feltner went over the 200 innings pitched mark in his career today. He leads all active Buckeyes in career innings (204.1 IP).
