
Buckeyes Drop Straight-Set Decision to Wildcats

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team fell short on Sunday afternoon at Northwestern in three sets (25-15, 25-18, 25-20). The setback leaves the Buckeyes at 12-12 overall and 3-9 in the Big Ten while the Wildcats improve to 13-11 with a 3-9 conference record.
For the 19th time this season, Vanja Bukilic reached double-digits with 11 kills. Lauren Witte got in on the action with 10 kills. Both Buckeyes had three blocks apiece and Bukilic had five digs. Becca Mauer added 20 assists and three rejections while Bia Franklin tallied six digs, three kills, two service aces and two blocks. Audra Appold led the defense with 11 digs and Hannah Gruensfelder dug five balls.
SET 1: Ohio State needed to use a timeout after Northwestern took a 12-8 lead. The Buckeyes could not close the gap as the Wildcats scored the last six points of the set for a 25-15 tally.
SET 2: Midway through the frame, the Buckeyes trailed 15-10. Northwestern maintained just enough space to earn a 25-18 win.
SET 3: Ohio State erased a four-point deficit to tie the set at 12-all and send the Wildcats to their bench. NU called its second timeout after a pair of kills by Witte and an error put the Buckeyes up 17-15. It was OSU’s turn to call for time after a 5-1 run gave Northwestern a 20-19 edge. The Wildcats went on to secure the set, 25-20.
