
Buckeyes Fall to No. 4 Illinois

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team dropped a 3-1 match (25-17, 18-25, 25-11, 25-19) to No. 4 Illinois Friday night inside St. John Arena. With the loss, the Buckeyes fall to 12-13 overall and 3-10 in Big Ten play while the Fighting Illini improve to 21-3 overall and 10-3 in conference action.
Vanja Bukilic secured the first double-double of her career on a match-best 14 kills and career-high 10 digs with two solo blocks. Bia Franklin turned in 10 kills and seven digs while Becca Mauer added a career-high eight kills and 10 digs. Lauren Witte registered eight kills on 18 error-free swings for a .444 attack clip. Olivia Dailey tied her career mark with three kills and paired it with 36 assists and eight digs. Hannah Gruensfelder dug a team-high 17 balls.
SET 1: Ohio State stayed close to Illinois through the majority of the opening frame. Trailing by four, the Buckeyes burned a timeout to regroup. Out of the break, the Illini went on a 5-1 run for a 25-17 tally.
SET 2: The Buckeyes scored the first four points of the set but the Illini bounced back to tie things at 9-all. Ohio State gained some distance at the 22-16 mark, which forced Illinois to call for time. The Scarlet & Gray held on for a 25-18 victory.
SET 3: The teams kept the score close to start but OSU’s miscues helped Illinois pull away, 25-11.
SET 4: The Illini went up 18-13 to send the Buckeyes to their bench. Ohio State tried to rally as it cut the deficit to three but it was not enough as Illinois took a 25-19 decision.
