
Ohio State Edged by No. 8 Michigan State in Wild Finish

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s soccer team fell, 2-1, in a wild finish against No. 8 Michigan State Friday night at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Buckeyes were able to find an equalizer in the 88th minute on a goal by Devyn Etling, however, the Green and White netted a game-winner with 19 seconds to go in regulation when Michael Wetungu scored off a rebound in front of net. With the loss, the Buckeyes drop to 1-10-2 overall and 0-4-1 in conference play, while the Spartans improve to 10-2-2 overall and 4-1 in league play.
After the first half went scoreless, Michigan State tallied a goal in the 54th minute when Giuseppe Barone scored from the top of the box into the back left of net. Both teams were forced to play with 10 men after red cards were issued to Osman Fofanah of Ohio State and Hunter Barone of Michigan State at 55:43. The Scarlet and Gray continued to battle and found a late equalizer in the 88th minute when Brady Blackwell sent in a cross and found Devyn Etling in front of the net, who headed in his second goal of the season to tie it at 1-all. But the Spartans went right back on the attack and had numbers in front of net off a loose ball with under a minute to go. Wetungu was able to send in a rebound past goalkeeper Parker Siegfried with 19 seconds remaining on the clock to lead the Spartans to victory. Siegfried made five saves in the match.
