Columbus, Ohio – The Buckeye track and field squad completed the first day of competition at two different meets Friday afternoon. Ohio State was in action at the Armory Invite (New York) and the Meyo Invitational (South Bend, Ind.)

Nick Demaline won his third shot put title this season on Friday afternoon at The Armory. He out threw 27 other athletes with a mark of 18.57m (60-11.25) to win gold. Demaline has now won three of four shot put events in 2017.
Two Buckeye sprinters had a stout showing in the invitational portion of the 400m dash. Nick Gray (47.84 – personal best) and Karrington Winters (54.21) both placed second in their respective elite events.
In the field events, sophomore Sade Olatoye finished second in the women’s shot put with a toss of 15.88m (52-1.25) and freshman Taylor DeLoach earned silver in the long jump with a personal-best bound of 6.06m (19-10.75).
In the short sprints, the Buckeyes had four athletes qualify for the finals on Saturday. Deshawn Marshall (6.77) and James Clark (6.83) both advanced through the preliminary rounds with two of the top-three fastest times. On the women’s side in the 60m dash, Aaliyah Barnes (7.46) and Halimah Barlow (7.50 – personal best) were able to advance to the finals as well.
In the hurdles, Ohio State had three athletes survive two rounds of qualification for Saturday’s finals. DaJuan Seward was the lone male to advance with a readout of 7.99, and Chantel Ray (8.36) and Christine London (8.40) cruised to the final stage.
In the men’s 500m invitational, Anthony Johnson placed third with a time of 1:02.76.
Events will resume tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. ET with the women’s weight throw. A stream of the running events is available at runnerspace.com.
Meyo Invitational Recap
Mid-distance runners Rachel Weber and Alex Lomong stole the show on day one of the Meyo Invitational with second-place showings in the 600m run. Weber was the top-collegiate finisher and placed second overall with a readout of 1:30.16. Weber finished .07 seconds behind 2012 Olympian Regina George. Lomong cruised to a second-place finish with a time of 1:18.94.
High jumper Josh Fridley finished second with a clearance of 1.98m (6-6.00) in his event. Mitch Leitch (14:33.71) and Jake Mandel (14:41.82) both recorded personal bests in the 5,000m run, and Madison Roberts finished fifth in the women’s pole vault with a clearance of 3.75m (12-3.50).
The Meyo will continue tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET with the women’s triple jump. The final two hours of the meet (2-4 p.m.) will be streamed on WatchESPN.
