Geneva, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s track and field team scored 58 points on day two of the Big Ten Championships at the SPIRE Institute to finish in third place with a two-day tally of 83 points; event titles from Karrington Winters and Sade Olatoye helped aid the surge.
The men’s team, relying on solid performances by Nick Gray and Deshawn Marshall, moved up two places in the final standings from day one to place seventh with 54 points.
Indiana won the men’s title with 112 points and Penn State captured the women’s trophy with a score of 96.50.
Olatoye captured her second title of the weekend on Saturday afternoon in the weight throw with a toss of 21.60m (70-10.50). With the win, Olatoye became the only woman in Ohio State program history to win both the shot put and weight throw titles at the indoor Big Ten Championships. Through seven meets this season, the sophomore has won 10 event titles, seven in the weight throw and three in the shot, and she has yet to drop a contest in the weight throw.
The biggest point grab of the day for the Buckeyes came in the women’s 600m run. The triumvirate of Winters, Rachel Weber and Annie Ubbing combined to score 20 points in the event. Weber and Winters were inseparable during their two trips around the track running stride for stride with each other. In the final 50-meters of the race, Winters pulled away to set the school record with a readout of 1:27.60. Weber set a personal best as well, clocking in at 1:28.11, which ranks No. 2 in school history. Ubbing, only a freshman, chipped in two points with a seventh-place finish.
The dynamic duo of Gray and Marshall in the short sprints racked up 28 points for the Buckeye men between the 60m and 200m dash. In the first final of the day for the duo, Marshall clocked a time of 6.70 to take second in the 60m dash and Gray placed seventh. The two men returned for the finals of the 200m dash a little over an hour later and sprinted to a commanding one-two finish. Gray, who set the Big Ten meet record in 2016, broke his own record with a time of 20.58 (ranks No. 2 in school history) and Marshall was right on his hip in the outside lane with a personal-best time of 20.74, which is tied for the third best in the record books.
Mikaela Seibert and Olivia Small teamed up in the triple jump to collect six points for Ohio State. Seibert (12.92m | 42-4.75 | fourth place) and Small 12.50 (12.50m | 41-0.25 | eighth place) best recorded personal bests in the event.
For the third-consecutive race, Anthony Johnson lowered his 600m run school record. The senior zipped around the track twice during his final with a time of 1:15.99 for bronze.
Halimah Barlow and Aaliyah Barnes ran to a fifth and sixth place showing in the 200m dash with times of 23.70 and 23.74 respectively. In the 60m hurdles, Donovan Robertson placed sixth with a readout of 8.03 in the men’s final and Chantel Ray placed seventh (8.29) for the women.
Bliss Soleyn churned out a solid 60m dash time of 7.46 to place sixth. DaJuan Seward (15.11m – triple jump), Sarah Kanney (4:51.00 – mile), Maggie Barrie (54.14 – 400m dash) and Alex Lomong (1:49.91 – 800m run) all placed eighth in their respective finals.
The women’s 4x400m relay squad of Beatrice Hannan, Winters, Barnes and Barrie closed out the meet with a school record of 3:32.84 for sliver.
