
Ohio State Jolts into Top-5 on Superb Final Day

RIO GRANDE, P.R. – The Ohio State University men’s golf team secured its second Top-5 finish of the season, blitzing through the Puerto Rico Classic’s final round at 4-under par (284). The Buckeyes leapt three opponents during the last 18 holes to place fifth in a 15-team field which included 11 schools ranked inside the Golfstat Top-50. Ohio State bested a pair of Top-25 squads in No. 15 Mississippi. (+14) and No. 17 North Carolina (+17).
Will Grimmer concluded the event posting a 71 on Tuesday, solidifying a T-12th finish. He carded subsequent rounds of 74-70-71 for his 10th Top-25 performance in 15 career events. The sophomore has now paced the Buckeyes in four of five stroke play events this season and in eight of 15 career tournaments.
Daniel Wetterich closed out the competition on a flurry, dropping in three birdies over the last five holes to wrap up a 68 in his final round. He totaled 15 birdies overall, the third-highest total in the field. Much of his damage came on the Par 3’s, registering a 1-under aggregate score on such holes (fourth best among all players). For the tournament, Wetterich earned a share of 24th place at 1-over (73-76-68).
Clark Engle stood right next to Wetterich in the end, also tied for 24th place in the 75-player contingent. The Buckeye senior rattled off rounds of 71-74-72 (+1) for his 15th career Top-25 showing and second straight after ending the Fall season with a 15th-place effort at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate (Oct. 24-25). His final go-around in Puerto Rico witnessed an eagle, one of just a dozen recorded in the tourney.
Caleb Ramirez got back on track, contributing a 73 to the Round Three team tally.
