KOHLER, Wis. — Tee-k Kelly extended his collegiate playing career another couple of weeks by seizing medalist honors at the NCAA Kohler Regional and punching his ticket to the NCAA Championships (May 27-30) in Eugene, Ore., at the Eugene Country Club. The Buckeye senior out-played 74 Regional competitors to earn the lone individual slot into the Championships.
Kelly rattled off rounds of 70-70-69 (-7) for his second individual title of the season, also capturing the Lone Star Invitational crown (March 21-22). His 209 NCAA Kohler Regional tally bested 15 of Golfstat’s Top-100 players, including a half dozen from the Top-25 and a pair of Top-10 foes. Kelly racked up 14 birdies in total, tied for third most in the entire field. He performed exceptionally well on Par 4’s, recording a grand total of 5-under to clear the next best Par-4 scorer by three strokes.
Kelly burst out of the gates on the final day, firing a 3-under 33 on the `Back 9' after starting his round on Hole #10. He then plummeted further below par at minus-5 through 13 holes before withstanding two bogies and maintaining his standing atop the leaderboard. Kelly recorded no worse than bogey throughout the complete tournament, registering only seven bogies compared to 14 birdies (33 pars).
Freshman Will Grimmer qualified for the NCAA Kohler Regional as well in his first season of collegiate golf, finishing in the event’s upper half. He posted a 3-over 219 (70-76-73) for a share of 35th place. Grimmer wraps up his first campaign donning the Scarlet & Gray with a 73.38 stroke average in 32 rounds of play, both marks ranking second on the team.
