COLUMBUS, Ohio — Five of seven Buckeyes ended the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational inside the individual top-25, pushing Ohio State its runner-up finish in the 12-team event. Jessica Porvasnik paced all Buckeyes with her fifth-place effort individually.
Porvasnik was extremely steady in registering subsequent scores of 72-73-73 and tying for the tournament lead with 38 total pars on 54 holes played. She will now enter next week’s Big Ten Championships, an event she won as a freshman in 2014, with seven career top-5 finishes.
Joining Porvasnik in the upper third of the field as top-25 performers were Rio Watanabe (8th), Katja Pogacar (T-16th), Jaclyn Lee (24th) and Niki Schroeder (T-25th). Each contributed multiple scores to the team tally in the `play 6, count 4' format. Watanabe chipped in all three rounds, carding sums of 74-75-72 to complete the weekend 5-over and in eighth place. The redshirt sophomore dropped in a team-high 10 birdies during her fourth career top-10 showing.
Pogacar also experienced few ebbs and flows on the Scarlet Course, putting up rounds of 74-75-76. The freshman tandem of Lee and Schroeder had a bit more adventure in their performances. Lee’s ownership of 24th place came after climbing back from an opening-round 81 and surging back at 74-72. Schroeder was the opposite, starting off hot at 75-74 before slipping a bit on the final day (79).
Zoe-Beth Brake got in on the team action Sunday, putting forth a 75 to aid in Ohio State’s ascension into second place. Lina Aguillon competed as an individual and grabbed a piece of 39th overall at 19-over (235).
As a team, the Buckeyes paced the field in both Par-3 (+5) and Par-5 (-4) scoring. Though tied with Indiana for second place after 54 holes, Ohio State was named the event runner-up on tiebreaker criteria.
