Buckeyes Open Up Spring Slate in First Round of Tiger Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

OPELIKA, Ala. – The Ohio State University men’s golf team began the Spring semester portion of its 2015-16 season on Sunday, completing the opening round of the 2016 Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner. Ohio State is among a five-way tie for 11th place in the 18-team event. Will Grimmer leads the way individually, tied for 12th overall at even par.
The Buckeyes registered a 15-over 303 to start the competition and are tied with Kansas State, South Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana and UNCW at 11th.
Grimmer off-set two bogies with a pair of birdies during the first eight holes before rattling off 10 consecutive pars to end the day at even par and toward the top (T-12th) of the 96-player field. Addison Coll is right behind him, a stroke back at 1-over and tied for 23rd overall. While Coll did not register 10 straight pars like Grimmer, his 15 overall pars are tied for the most in the tournament.
Sean Busch, playing as an individual, finished as the next best Buckeye on Day One. The senior from West Lafayette, Ind., dropped in three birdies on the Front 9 before going 4-over on the Back to conclude the afternoon 3-over (75) and inside the field’s upper half (T-38th).
Ohio State received scores from Grant Weaver and Tee-k Kelly as well. Weaver took 78 strokes while Kelly logged 80. The two OSU upperclassmen are tied for 68th and 83rd place, respectively. Clark Engle had a day of ups and downs, accumulating an aggregate sum of 84 despite being one of only two players in the entire tourney to record an eagle. He did so on the Par 5, 522-yard 12th hole.
