No. 2 Buckeyes Drop Road Contest at No. 12 Miami, 4-2 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The second-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team lost at No. 12 Miami Wednesday, 4-2, ending its winning streak at eight matches. The Buckeyes, now 15-2 (1-0 B1G), won the doubles point and the teams split the first two completed singles matches. The Hurricanes, 8-4 on the year (3-2 ACC), then won three singles matches in three sets for the team win in Coral Gable, Fla.
“It was a tough loss today,” Melissa Schaub, Ohio State head coach, said. “We fought hard and put ourselves in a good position winning the doubles point and four first sets. They are a tough team and deserve all of the credit today. We will keep our heads up and get back to work.”
Next up, Ohio State will play two Big Ten matches this weekend. The squad plays at Wisconsin at 6 p.m. ET Friday. Sunday, the Buckeyes host Minnesota at 11 a.m. The match vs. the Gophers is scheduled to be played outdoors at the Varsity Tennis Courts but will be moved inside the Varsity Tennis Center in the event of inclement weather. Against Miami Ohio State capture the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. The tandem of freshman Francesca Di Lorenzo and sophomore Olivia Sneed remained undefeated this spring (15-0) with a 6-2 win over No. 55-ranked Sinead Lohan and Clara Tanielian on court two.
In a battle of Top 10 teams, the second-ranked Buckeye duo of junior Miho Kowase and sophomore Anna Sanford topped No. 10 Stephanie Wagner and Wendy Zhang, 6-3. The match on court three was suspended with the Hurricanes’ duo ahead 5-3.
In singles, Miami’s No. 7-ranked Lohan won over Sanford on court two, 6-3, 6-1, to tie the match at one. Kowase put the Buckeyes back ahead, downing No. 103 ranked Zhang, 6-4,6-4. Kowase has won her last eight matches and is 12-1 in dual matches this year.
The Hurricanes won the final three singles matches, all in three sets, for the team victory. On court one Wagner, ranked sixth, rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over No. 3 Di Lorenzo. On court six Sneed forced a third set but fell, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, to Ana Madcur. Silvia Fuentes clinched the win for Miami, defeating Buckeye junior Gabriella De Santis in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
The match on court five was suspended with Buckeye junior Ferny Angeles Paz ahead in the third set, 7-5, 3-6, 5-2.
